Health insurance questions...

Guys and gals...I need some advice.

My Mothers health is crap. She is on all kinds of different medicine. One in which, costs $300 monthly w/o insurance. (Along with 4 more prescriptions monthly).

She is a case manager at a homeless shelter in NE Indiana. Not only does this homeless shelter work with the homeless, they also take in addicts.

She was informed yesterday that they are cutting the insurance plans due to lack of funds. She makes next to nothing (and is single). They told her they would try to hold out for January, but can't be certain.

She has looked into H.I.P. (Healthy Indiana Plan) but you have to be w.o insurance for 6 months before you can be approved.

So what the heck does she do until then? Who do I call? She makes too much for Medicaid and doesn't want to go that route anyways.

I''m super irritated. The addicts she works with get medicaid...for being an ADDICT. No other reasons.

Now I have a mother, who has worked her whole life, paid her taxes and got into a car accident and it ruined her life. W/O this medicine she will be in unbearable amounts of pain (been there, done that, don't want to do it again). She is also on Medicine for her COPD, medicine she NEEDS.
She can't afford a health plan through an insurance company that isn't through work. I've seen what's out there and it is just too much (cost wise) for her right now!
What do I tell her? How can I help her?

Any advice would help greatly. Oh..and also prayers. LOTS of prayers.

In search of a new range

All,

My brother in law is in town he took some leave as a pastor for the holidays, he has no experience with firearms; the other night at dinner he had mentioned wanting to shoot. I think this would be a GREAT bonding opportunity for us and I want to take him to a nice PUBLIC outdoor range tomorrow morning ( Saturday the 21st ).

Anyone have any ideas, I need the range to be in the Indy area and it has to open around 9 am. I'd also like to shoot my 12 gauge if possible.

I'd love to hear your recommendations, thanks!

*College students arrested for not paying tip*

By Peter Mucha
Inquirer Staff Writer
It was an evening out that college students Leslie Pope and John Wagner will long remember.
Not only did they get what they called lousy service, they got handcuffed and arrested.
All over a $16.35 tip.
They were with a half-dozen friends at the Lehigh Pub in Bethlehem last month, so the establishment tacked what it called a mandatory 18 percent gratuity onto the bill of about $73, according to reports.
Pope and Wagner refused to pay.
"You can't give us terrible, terrible service and expect a tip," said Pope, a 22-year-old Moravian College senior who's a Pottsville native, according to the Lehigh Valley Express-Times (http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/today/index.ssf/2009/11/no_tip_leads_to_a_police_cruis.html).
They had to find their own napkins and cutlery while their waitress caught a smoke, had to ask the bar for soda refills, and had to wait over an hour for salad and wings, they told NBC10.
The pub, which was very busy that night, took the $73, but then called the cops, who treated the matter as a theft.
The menu clearly states, "18 percent gratuity added to check of parties of 6 of more," and a similar message is printed on receipts, a pub employee said this morning.
A court date is scheduled for next month.
What would they do if it happened again? a reporter asked.
"Honestly, probably gonna pay the tip anyway," said Pope, prompting Wagner, 24, a Lehigh University grad student, to laugh.

It benefits the Texas National Guard Family Support Foundation. Also, Google "Red River 44" , a Chinook flight that went down in Iraq, killing all eight aboard. (If my paste and link doesn't work, just go to You Tube and type in "Angel Flight", it'll be worth your time.

Peruvian Gang Killed People for their Fat

Peru police: Gang killed people for fat - Americas- msnbc.com (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34057001/ns/world_news-americas/)

All I can say is no trips for me to Peru!

---Quote---
LIMA, Peru - Police say a gang in the Peruvian jungle has been killing people and draining fat from the corpses to sell on the black market for use in cosmetics, although medical experts say they doubt a major market for fat exists.Three suspects confessed to killing five people, but the gang may have been involved in dozens more, said Col. Jorge Mejia, chief of Peru's anti-kidnapping police. He said one suspect claimed the gang wasn't the only one doing such killings.
Mejia said two of the suspects were arrested carrying bottles of liquid human fat and told police it was worth $60,000 a gallon. The fat was sold to intermediaries in Peru's capital, Lima, and police suspect it was then sold to cosmetic companies in Europe, Mejia said Thursday, but he could not confirm any sales.

I'm wanting to build an all steel pole building next year. Can anyone recommend a manufacturer or a builder in the Lafayette area?

About the only company I've checked out so far is this one. Prefab, I-Beam Steel Buildings For Commercial & Residential Uses - AmericanDuroBeam.com (http://americandurobeam.com/)

I'm looking to do a 50 x 80 with a divider wall going down the center to make 2 50 x 40's. One side will be a shop and the other will be storage. I will most likely go with spray foam insulation instead of the blanket stuff for the shop side. For heat, I plan on running pex in the floor before it is poured and putting in a couple water heaters with pumps. I'm not interested in making it 80 degrees, just keep the chill off and dry.

If you can recommend a good manufacturer with good prices or a construction company in the Lafayette area that can erect it, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

NEW YORK – For Citibank credit card holders, there is one way to escape the bank's rate hikes currently under way: Meet a monthly spending requirement.
Those who meet the spending minimum — in some cases $750 a month — will be able to get a rebate on their total interest charges for that month. The rebate could cover some or all of the interest rate hike. Customers also need to make payments on time to qualify for the rebate.
Without giving specifics, Citi said the monthly spending requirements and interest rate hikes will vary depending on the cardholder's credit history.
About half of its customers will be able to erase 50 percent to 100 percent of their rate increases through the rebates. Citi said its rebates will be based on interest charges for an entire balance, not just monthly charges.
With 92 million credit cards in circulation last year, Citi was the second largest card issuer in the country, according to CreditCards.com (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/ap/ap_on_bi_ge/storytext/us_citi_spending_required/34151326/SIG=10obppvgf/*http://CreditCards.com). Chase was the largest with 119.4 million cards, and Bank of America was third with 80.2 million cards.
The change by Citi comes as the industry rushes to adjust to sweeping reforms to start in February that will limit when and how much card issuers can hike interest rates. In a statement, Citi said the actions were necessary given elevated losses from souring loans and "regulatory changes that eliminate repricing for that risk."
The bank also noted that "customers who do more business with us will have the most opportunity to reduce their rates." Of course, consumers could need to spend more than they otherwise would to qualify.
That's the case for Lindsey Pappas, a 25-year-old public relations professional in San Francisco. She received a letter from Citi Wednesday that her interest rate was being hiked to 19.99 percent, up from 14.99 percent.
If she spends $750 a month, however, she can get a refund for part of the higher interest rate charges.
The problem is that Pappas is trying to pay off a $5,000 balance on the card, so she tries not to charge any money on it.
"I'm just going to have to deal with the higher interest rate. Spending that much would be irresponsible," she said.
Her best option now is trying to pay off the balance quickly, she said.
Citi's move is just the latest in a series of rate hikes, lowered limits and other term changes credit card customers have seen in the past year. Customers who never carry a balance, and therefore don't incur financing charges, have not been spared.
Last month, for example, Bank of America said it used "risk and profitability" in selecting accounts on which to test annual fees of between $29 and $99.
Citi's move, meanwhile, is likely intended to generate greater interchange fees, which banks reap from merchants when customers use credit or debit cards, said Ben Woolsey, director of consumer research for CreditCards.com (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/ap/ap_on_bi_ge/storytext/us_citi_spending_required/34151326/SIG=10obppvgf/*http://CreditCards.com). If customers spend more to qualify for lower rates, Citi will benefit from the additional transactions.
Most customers who choose to refuse Citi's new terms will be allowed to continue under their old interest rates until their cards expire. Other accounts will be deactivated.
While Citi is raising interest rates across much of its credit card portfolio, select customers will be offered lower rates. To qualify, however, they will need to transfer a balance from another credit card onto their Citi cards.
Samuel Wang, a Citi spokesman, declined to say the credit card terms potential new customers would be offered.

*Harpo President Announces Oprah Winfrey's Plans to Step Down From Iconic Show*

*By SHEILA MARIKAR*

*Nov. 19, 2009 —*

After more than 20 years at the top of the daytime talk show game, Oprah Winfrey (http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/oprah-winfrey-whitney-houston-interview-season-future/story?id=8526345)'s calling it quits.
According to insiders, Winfrey informed her staff of her decision late this afternoon in a company meeting, described as "emotional, supportive and respectful."
This afternoon, Tim Bennett, president of Winfrey's Harpo (http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=9131660) production house, announced that the media mogul will step off the "Oprah (http://abcnews.go.com/Health/victim-chimp-attack-shows-destroyed-face-oprah/story?id=9053544)" set in September 2011. He said Winfrey will confirm the news on Friday's edition of her show.
"The Oprah Winfrey Show" will not move on to the cable Oprah Winfrey Network or OWN.
Since "Oprah's" 1986 inception, Winfrey's grown to be far more than a shoulder to cry on for scandal-scarred stars. Her empire -- which includes films, books, magazines and Web sites, in addition to her TV show -- influences people the world over, and her wealth -- at one point, she was the world's only African-American billionaire, according to Forbes magazine -- grants her access to people, places and things few others can conceive.
What's next for Winfrey? Perhaps she'll drop a hint on her show Friday.
Below, read the full text of Bennett's statement to stations across the country that carry Winfrey's show.
Dear Friends:
Over the past several weeks, my team and I have had conversations with many of you to help address your questions about the future of "The Oprah Winfrey Show." Of course, the one question we couldn't answer was the one that only Oprah could. And tomorrow, she will do just that.
But before she speaks to her loyal viewers, we wanted to share her decision first with you -- our valued partners for more than two decades.
Tomorrow, Oprah will announce live on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" that she has decided to end what is arguably one of the most popular, influential and enduring programs in television history. The sun will set on the "Oprah" show as its 25th season draws to a close on September 9, 2011.
We welcome you to share this news this evening with your colleagues and viewers. As we all know, Oprah's personal comments about this on tomorrow's live show will mark an historic television moment that we will all be talking about for years to come.
We want to thank you for the partnership and friendship we have shared over the years. Your invaluable support has helped us to create the phenomenon of the "Oprah Show" that we've all been so proud to be a part of for the last 24 years. My staff and I will be calling all of you directly tonight and tomorrow. We look forward to speaking with you.
And, if you think the last quarter century has been something, then "don't touch that dial" as together we plan to make history in the next 20 months ... and beyond.
Yours sincerely,
Tim Bennett
President, Harpo, Inc.
Oprah's production company Harpo says that while it has projects in development, they are not announcing anything at this time.
