Search is busted

Dunno if you guys are fixing/upgrading something tonight, but the search boxes aren't working for any values.

Returning this error message:

connection to localhost:9312 failed (errno=111, msg=Connection refused)

Yep. INGO went down for a couple hours earlier. The search function is always screwy for a while after a ferret attack.

FYI, Google Advanced Search works better than the INGO search in most cases.


Just search whatever you're looking for on Google and include:

site:ingunowners.com

In the search window after.

Example:

Glock vs. 1911 site:ingunowners.com

Is there a way to have google do other forum searches? Like the "View forum posts" feature?

Search is busted? I wasn't aware that it was ever really "fixed". On it's best day it doesn't work half as well as chez's suggestion of using Google. It's a "feature" that really needs looking at.

Pretty sure that is a vBulletin problem, not an INGO problem

Also, the "view unread" and "view all posts/threads by" features use the vbulletin search engine as well and are not easily replicated by Google.

Seems to be back to working now btw.

Actually, since the most recent forum changes, I think Google Advanced searches return less and less. Stuff that I know is buried somewhere here doesn't return as it once did. Occasionally, the forums search function returns info that Google didn't.

Separate from searching for content, bringing up all of a users posts is a critically important feature of this forum. Without it, you might as well be doing classifieds deals on Craig's List. Showing up to trades with big money or premium gear with someone who could be anybody. It's always a PIA to find a rooftop to put your Beluchi or Kilmer on, with the rifle. Not to mention wondering whose looking at you through the glass.
