Ever look at your ammo stockpile and think "Screw it, I'm going to ditch everything that doesn't shoot XX?"

I've streamlined a bit, but I still have to stock .380, .40, .45, and .44 just for handguns. If I can wean my wife off her .380 and end to a .40 I'd at least be down to 3.

Then about 8 others I stock for shotguns and rifles...

I have too many different "needs" and a single caliber cannot fill all the positions.

9mm - cheap to reload, XDm compact conceals easily
    .45acp - stopping power

    .22 - shoot all day for $20
.223 - cheap rifle to reload, feeds my hungry ARs
7.62x54 - history, cheap ammo w/ a big bang, long range

12ga - #8 for fun clay shooting, #00 for late night company

I have same number of calibers as I do guns... I'm hoping to remedy that soon with more guns in some of the same calibers. :ar15:

When I first started I thought I would stick to 1 type ammo... But honestly, after the last election when everything went so scarce (ammo supply) for awhile, it made me think that I want options if things go South. I want to be able to locate any of the popular ammo in a pinch and know that I have something that can shoot it.

    I used to reload for 204, 223, 22-250, 243, 260, 270, 30-06, 38Spec, 9mm, and 40SW.

Today, I reload for 223, 223AI and 260...and the only additional calibers I own are 22LR and 9mm. Other guns got sold, traded, or barrels swapped.

I have found rationalizing my calibers allows me to shoot fewer weapons more often and provides economies of scale when it comes to buying components and ammunition.

    YMMV

Do you golf with only the 2 Wood?

    +1 &rep

I also subscribe to the golf bag analogy theory (sounds like a good name for it).

I don't have an interest in consolidating to a single caliber, and while I understand the potential benefit of having only one ammo to stock to feed everything-I also perceive this as a potential problem should that caliber become difficult to obtain ammo or components for.

I do, however tend to stock heavier for the common caliber I have primarily because I go through more of it.

    I did.
    Sort of.

    I went from .357, 38, 45, 9mm, .22, 12ga, 20ga down to...

    .45, 20ga, .22, & 38spl.

The .22 is for fun plinking and new shooters.
The 20ga is the HD shotgun.
    The 38 is my BUG
And the .45 needs no explanation. :D
