Sheriff's departments across Indiana used to auction guns from their property rooms once they were no longer needed for evidence.

When police department budgets are being cut across the state, it seems like this would be a good thing for Indiana to consider. Except for "The Region" of course. Everyone knows that the Chicago gangs come there to get their ill-gotten guns.

    I'm all for these auctions.
    BUT...

I remember going to one of these auctions in Indy several years ago.

They had all the guns in front on a long table, with a long cable going through all their trigger guards, and locked at both ends.

We examined them up close before the auction.

More often than not, these guns were being auctioned off for WAY more than they cost to buy a new one.

People were bidding the price way up and had NO idea what they were worth.

We left laughing wondering how some of these people could be so dumb.

    .
I remember going to the police auctions with my dad when I was a kid. Bought more than a few rifles and shotguns.
