Gun store owner halts federal raid | FOX5 San Diego ? San Diego news, weather, traffic, sports from KSWB

OCEANSIDE, Calif. – An Oceanside store that sells various gun parts to build a rifle from scratch warded off a federal raid Wednesday. Dimitrios Karras, owner of Ares Armor, said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents were investigating their business, not for what they sell, but for the people who purchase their products...

In anticipation of a raid, they filed a temporary restraining order against the ATF, stopping them from confiscating their property, Karras said. The ATF has a certain amount of time to respond. If the two parties do not reach a compromise, they will be in court for a preliminary hearing March 20.

Let's see... IRS audit coming up... constant checks of his paperwork by BATFE in the future... OSHA... EPA... our overlords will not stand for this sort of behavior from mere vassals.

I was just going to post this. They are a reseller of a polymer lower made by EP Armory who was recenttly raided. There's some more info up Ares website here => Temporary Restraining Order Against BATFE - Ares Armor

I was scheduled to work in San Diego for a couple days next week (fell through) and was planning to buy a few aluminum 80% lowers with cash and ship them back to Indy.

Ares is also the store where the local city .gov has threatened them over the contents of their store bill board. Another interesting story.

CA is trying HARD to put it to Ares Armor! First suing them and trying to get them kicked out of their building over a 20 year old sign to now this. Someone in their local gov really has it out for them, it's seemingly became their mission now!

Could be, but EP Armory and whoever bought those plastic "80%" lowers you could complete with a hand drill really seem to be in their sights....so to speak.

Looks to me like the BATFE is going hard after the EP Armory 80% lowers which makes me wonder if there are other retailers besides this one the BATFE has gone after, and if so, how did they deal with it? Turned over their records? Fight it? What?

Like others have stated, ares armor has had a target on their back for a while now. Nutnfancy just did a video on their legal issues a couple weeks ago. They also sell some really nice ar stuff along with their 80% lowers

    From the article:
"It is legal to build a rifle from scratch without serial numbers only if the base is manufactured to ATF specifications. The base is not considered a firearm if it’s sold separately."

Is that correct? I thought that the lower was considered to be the firearm?

If a person has to do a certain amount of work on it to make it a functioning lower, it is not a firearm as sold. It only become one when finished. The issue with the EP plastic 80% lower is apparently the BATFE either believes that they are manufactured to the point where they are considered a firearm under the law, then the trigger control cavity is filled in (EP claims this is not true) or not enough work is needed to finish it meaning it is considered a firearm as sold, but has not been sold with a 4473 because EP and retailers that sell them did not consider them firearms. The BATFE now considers the "80%" lowers (EP considers them 80%, but the BATFE does not) firearms and wants to know who bought them.

Do Mfg's of 80% lowers submit their new designs to ATF before they are sold? Just curious.

Even if they did, it's not like the ATF NEVER changes their minds!
