So this weekend I was in Cleveland on business and I took two clients out who let's just say can drink...anyway we were leaving at the end of the night...we shut the place down at 2 or 3 AM and though very late I had only 2 glasses of wine at dinner and 4 beers all night at the club....not bad for a 6'5" 330lbs guy. So I had been drinking but I was FAR from drunk.

I was cashing out my tab and I asked the bartender for a drink of water...obviously she wanted a good tip so she complied...now this was after they had turned on the house lights and pushed most of the riff raf out the door. I got somewhat of a bye because I was waiting for my tab.

I signed the tab..took a drink of water and felt a hand on my back...i turned around and saw a bouncer with a rent a cop hat on (the ones that look like a badge) and a taser pulled and aimed at me. He then said "its time to leave gentlemen."

All I am thinking is was this leagle practice in ohio? Are tasers treated different than handguns?

I will never go to the "Blind Pig" again.

A bouncer approached you with a taser aimed at you? Holy crap man I'd be pissed and never go there again. Hell I'd tell everyone I know to avoid the place.

You could always have gone Chuck Norris on him and made him go to the hospital to have the taser removed from his rear.

Ohio law defines a Taser as a deadly weapon per the Taser website.

    2923.11 Deadly weapon definition

[/FONT]I'd imagine that would make the bouncer guilty of something not friendly.

You'd have to look at case law. In Indiana we have a specific law which says you don't point firearms at people. I haven't found an equivalent Ohio law. You may have a case under this law, though:

    Lawriter - ORC - 2903.21 Aggravated menacing.

    2903.21 Aggravated menacing.

    (A) No person shall knowingly cause another to believe that the offender will cause serious physical harm to the person or property of the other person, the other person’s unborn, or a member of the other person’s immediate family.

That's all I could find...you may want to ask on some Ohio gun forums, they might know more. :dunno:

He wouldn't have been happy to be in a gun fight with a taser. On a lighter note, I would make a report of the incident and follow up with some leagal advice.

The guy definitely shouldn't be pointing a taser at you, IMHO. On the one hand, I sympathize with the guy somewhat. Maybe past experience played a role in that. I can imagine the type of drunk he occasionally has to, ahem, "escort" out of a bar at 2am. On the other hand, he should have been smart enough to appraise the situation first (finishing paying your bill, obviously not being rowdy or belligerent, etc.).

When did bouncers start carrying tasers? Seems to me that would be a huge liability to the club. There is a whole lot to go wrong when LEOs use one, let alone a bouncer.

Yup, if all you were doing was sipping a glass of water and weren't obviously drunk or being loud... his actions were totally uncalled for.

I would have calmly looked at the bartender and said, "I'm in fear of my life" then:
