Some recent threads have brought the "us-vs-them" mentality to the surface again. I point out that this attitude is prevalent on LEO forums, some LEOs think this attitude is prevalent here.

The fact remains that the thin blue line exists--cops protect cops and if citizens express a distrust of cops we are accused of cop bashing. LEOs have a certain control and power that can make our lives less than pleasant.

Do you really think it is wise to trust law enforcement? I find it hard to make that argument.

**** just got real.... This thread is not going to end well.

    ..........................................

To answer your question... I don't feel like it is "us vs cops" or "us vs .gov". I feel like it should be "us vs ourselves". Our own fear seems to perpetuate, either naturally or from media projecting. Perpetuate to the point where WE (collectively) have empowered authority to take extreme measures over minuscule problems.

For some reason or another... humans world wide seem willing to exchange liberty for safety to the point of extreme diminishing returns. Returns so diminished that they are willing to give up a lot for next to nothing in return... so willing in fact, that the process of deferring to authority has become natural and thoughtless.

I do not blame authority... nor do I blame those who defer to it. What rattles my brain is that I can't see any solution to reversing this trend. Its hard enough to get a family member to 'Wake Up'... let alone a nation.

Most of it depends on your skin color or socioeconomic status. The police aren't against me. I am white and wealthy. They call me sir. Fast forward to a stop and frisk in Harlem. LE is an industry. Numbers need to be met just as widgets need to be produced. I can harvest moon rocks to make widgets, or I can drive down MLK.

On the whole, I'll take a cop I don't know watching my 6 rather than you.

I guess you know where I stand.

    Dumb thread.

You sure do a lot of that in threads lately, are you sharing at least?

    Nah....

I had something witty..well I thought it was witty, but apparently not memorable. I accidentally deleted it and rather than try to remember what I had and then re-write it, I punted. I'm feeling lazy tonight.:dunno:

(If anybody knows how to "undo" on an Ipad, that knowledge would be handy...especially 5-10 minutes ago).

Anyone wielding authority should be distrusted until proven: however some take it beyond reasonable caution to the point of painting with the dreaded broad brush.

That said, others also tend to minimize every. single. LEO. issue. This doesn't help either, since it gives the impression of ignoring the problem which is exactly what the other folks are trying to overcome by their posts in the first place.

Both sides also have folks who take crap way too personally, but then this is the internet. GIFT is in full effect no matter who is behind the keyboard.

We're all intelligent people here, and there's no reason we can't discuss this matter without devolving into a gigantic brawl. People just need to have some freaking self-control.

Also, I brought free popcorn guys, and I always bring extra butter :popcorn::popcorn:
