That would give the west coast a lot more reps in congress, that's for sure. Some have wanted to divide it into two, but this division into six is a new take on it. It would turn Silicon Valley into its own state. A techno enclave. I'd really like to see how that works out. The mayor of San Jose is apparently up for it. No doubt the congress will never let it occur, tho.

Wasn't California supposed to separate from North America, and float out into the Pacific? Still waiting anxiously for that to happen.

I don't think enough of it would be separated and then there's the metastasis that the rats leaving the mess they've created, infecting other states.

Well... If you're willing to wait 50+ million years, and are referring to coastal California (the part on the west side of the San Andreas), the answer is "yes"--I hope you've got a LOT of patience!! The even better news is that by 250 million years from now, coastal California essentially becomes coastal Alaska. That might put a slight damper on their craziness...or it might not. Who knows??

As I understand the legal process, it would have to start with California deciding to split itself. Since that would mean a HUGE dilution of power from those currently reaping the benefits of one large California, it's not likely in my opinion. They it would have to be approved by the sitting Congress, which, depending on which party was in power at the time, might or might not be approved.

But I think the support for this idea in the Socialist Republic of California is extraordinarily unlikely at this point in spite of what some wealthy fool thinks.

The more idiots (cockroaches) come out of the woodwork the more I'm waiting for the "BIG JIGGLE" on the San Andreas line to drop Commiefornia into the Pacific. It's not going to come soon enough to make me happy. Wackydoodles galore and I hope they don't swim well either.
This in itself is a fine example of the division in our country. Neither side has respect or tolerance for the other.

As someone who knows California pretty well - you would NOT get 10 Nancy Pelosi clones. If you divided CA into six states (and depending on how you divided it) you would likely get 2 maybe 3 ultra liberal enclaves (LA and SF and maybe Sacramento) , a country club republican enclave (OC/San Diego area) and 2 places likely to be very conservative (Central Valley and North State). I'm not sure how they are proposing Silicon Valley go, but that would go with Central Valley if I was doing it.

Bottom line - you actually end up with MORE conservative representation than exists today, since the SF and LA interests have the bulk of the power...

EDIT - I just took a closer look at the proposal - looks even more interesting. He's including SF with Silicon Valley - which will make it a socially liberal, venture capitalist's dream - but not somewhere i'd want to live. Jefferson would be pretty libertarian on social issues - republican in Congress. North Cal. would be moderate to liberal. Central Cal would be conservative and a place that most here would find great. South Cal would be a country club republican sort of place. And West Cal would be an LA/Obama/Clinton hose fest.

On my score card that would be 6 senators for the R's and 6 for the D's... no way in hell that the D's go for that, given their clutch on power right now.

I say make CA its own country and it can divide itself into however many states it wants.

    :+1:

This is a positive reverse on the position that got a former member permanently banned for posting SECEDE! one time too many.

Instead of advocating that good states secede, kicking out the bad ones seems a far better alternative!

Bound to be cheaper and less harmful to the rest of the US in the long run

It's already happening. Look what CA-CA expats have accomplished in Colorado, and they're trying to do the same to Texas. If the US just HAS to have a "Gulag," I can't think of a better place to put it.
