I thought this article had an interesting quote.
NBC: Obama to name Kagan for high court - Supreme Court- msnbc.com

So... what makes her views on executive power "conservative"?
I was wondering that too. I think that modern presidents have had too much power, so perhaps Kagan believes in a more limited executive? Or, perhaps MSNBC was thinking of a "neocon" when they typed "conservative," so she could believe that the executive has broad powers.

And everyone got upset over Harriet Miers. Doesn't sound much different.

David McIntosh, co-founder of the Federalist Society and former congressman from Indiana: "I'm deeply disappointed that President Obama has chosen to nominate an individual who has demonstrated a lack of adherence to the limits of the Constitution and a desire to utilize the court system to enact her beliefs of social engineering. Solicitor General Kagan has been nominated with no judicial experience, a mere two years of private law practice, and only a year as Solicitor General of the United States. She is one of the most inexperienced nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court in recent memory."

He adds: "Ms. Kagan's public comments should be highly disturbing to all Americans as they show what kind of a Justice she will be. She has been a vocal opponent of military recruiters on the Harvard Law School campus, placing political correctness above national security in a time of war. Ms. Kagan abandoned the will of the American people and the Congress by challenging the Defense of Marriage Act, proving she will merely rule based on her personal political preferences and not the law. President Obama has, once again, nominated an individual who places a higher premium on political progressivism than adherence to the set of laws that have made this country strong and free. For someone tragically inexperienced and activist, Ms. Kagan represents President Obama's ideal of transforming the Supreme Court into a vehicle for social reform and judicial affirmative action.

1/3 of the comments in this thread are concerning her looks. There is surely a better standard for judicial review.

Since she has little to no experience as a lawyer and she's never been a judge it's difficult to give her a judicial review.
Since we're not the ones that are going to vote on her appointment we may as well have some fun.
As my wife said if she was a hot babe we would be talking about that.

I've listened to NPR and other radio stations and watched TV, and nothing has been mentioned about her stand on abortion or the 2A. I can't find anything that she's published, but I will be able for conduct a better search when I get to work.

No matter who is put up as a nominee for a political position you will always have someone who says they are to conservative or to liberal for their views. I will do some research on her but it would not surprise me at all if she is more moderate than truly liberal. Obama knows he is losing all of his moderate to conservative voters so he will throw the moderates a bone here to show that he is not a "socialist."

My problem with her is that she has very little experience outside of academia. One of the reasons that I liked Justice Roberts was that he worked in the political arena, but also practiced his trade outside of the classroom. I have no doubt that Kagan is well-educated and incredibly intelligent, but I would prefer a lawyer with significant experience in the practical application of the law. I.e., trial experience, client representation, etc. I don't want someone who views and examines the law in a theoretical sense. I want someone that has done it all and sees the public impact of their judicial decisions and is effected by them.

This, appears to be a political favor, the Chicago Way. It also appears to be Obama acting on the behalf of one portion of society, rather than all of society.

Also, I really don't like how she tried to keep military recruiters off campus. As a college graduate, and a member of a family where all, excluding myself, have served in the military, I think it is wrong to bar recruiters from college campuses. Military recruiters are trying to get some of the best educated individuals to serve their country and apply that education for the protection of the United States, and towards leading men and women in uniform. I really don't like her views on that.
