UltraSonic Cleaning. Anyone?

There are obviously crooks and nannies that you aren't exactly able to get to when cleaning your firearms. The best thing I can come up with is an UltraSonic cleaner. Has anyone had any experience with using one? Good idea? Bad Idea?

Yes but not for firearms. I'm sure it would work fine.

It never even occurred to me that every nook and cranny on my pistol should be cleaned.

Pretty much as long as the hole the striker comes out of it clear, the extractor claw isn't caked with carbon, and the feed ramp isn't completely nasty I figured the pistol was good to go.

This isn't something I would want to do every time I clean it, but every now and then.

I was also looking to use it on the bolt carrier for the AR. It's a ***** trying to get the inside of it clean.

My Glock won't stop for anything but it seems to run even smoother when clean.

Pipe cleaners work wonders on the BCG.

I can see using an ultrasonic cleaner for that though. The only thing I would worry about is some of the internal parts do like being lightly lubed. If you toss the slide of your Glock into the cleaner, are you going to be able to dry, and then lube the striker and spring for example?

I'm not a Glock guy, maybe that's supposed to be completely dry. I know the main spring in my HK is supposed to be lightly lubed.

I've been meaning to get some pipe cleaners. I'll put it on the list.

If I were cleaning the slide on my Glock, I would strip it and then drop it in the cleaner. Then let it dry, oil/lube and reassemble.

I just didn't know if this was a good idea and/or worth the money and effort.

Wal-Mart had the pipe cleaners. As did Meijer.

I'm not sure if it'd be worth it or not. I'm pretty sure, as long as the frame to slide fit isn't completely gummed up, the extractor is clean, and the firing pin isn't completely blocked the Glock is going to run.

A good complete cleaning might make a little difference, but I'm not sure it's worth the expense of the unit. Just my and I admit I'm far from an expert on the topic.

I use Poly Dunk Kit from cylinder and Slide.

Pull off the grips and dunk the whole thing in the bucket.
Let soak for 15min to 2 days, drain run swab down the barrel, repeat as necessary.

Made for those Plastic Pistols you guys like.

I also use a bore snake JIC.

I have a bore snake for my 12ga and .22/.223. They seem worth the money.
