Having a Gun in the house

Thanks to an email from my buddy Joe...

She then asked, 'Are you that afraid of some one evil coming into your house?'
My reply was, 'No not at all. I am not afraid of the house catching or bursting into fire either, but I have fire extinguishers all around - and they are all loaded too.'
I reminded her that having an unloaded gun in the house is like having a car in the garage without gas or keys."
I found this funny.

Ive also had a very similar conversation with my "conservative" family from Kommifornia.

Fam: "What in the world do you need a gun on your hip for! This isn't the wild west."

Myself: "Do you wear a seatbelt?"

Fam: "Yes."

Myself: "Why?"

Fam: "Just in case."

Myself: "I wear a pistol for the same reason - just in case."

I have used the fire extinguisher and seat belt comparisons before. Unfortunately the deep seeded fear of firearms is so bad in some people that they don't get the comparison.

One girl I was talking to asked why I needed a gun and I said "just in case". The conversation progressed and she finally admitted that she would rather just roll over and die than to defend herself with a gun. I think she worded it "then it is just my time". It is scary to me that people can even think like that. They are such sheep that they would even refuse to attempt to defend themselves and would rather die than do so. That attitude says a lot about a person to me. If they care that little about their own well being one has to wonder just what the hell do they care about as apparently even their sense of self preservation is no longer working.

Funny thing though is the fact she buckled her seatbelt in the car... :rolleyesedit:

You'd think she wouldn't. You know if she is in a crash, maybe it was just her time.

I know, but you know how liberals and hypocrisy go hand in hand.

I guess seatbelts aren't as scary as guns or something.

I thought that it was a great point about the seatbelt as a "just in case" in the same way a gun is there for self defense. It amazes me how you are treated like a criminal merely for trying to protect yourself from the threat of a real criminal. People have just been made to think that if you carry a gun you are just looking for trouble, when in reality nobody I know who carries EVER wants to have to shoot somebody, but they realize that in order to protect and preserve their own life they may need to.
