![]() | Thanks all for the recommendations. Jeff Johnson delivered my safe yesterday, and it's a beauty! Great guy to work with, configured the inside just like I wanted. A bit beyond what I first budgeted for a safe, but the best $$ I've spent for a firearm accessory. (Going to put some camera gear in it, also.) I won't regret it. He was glad to hear that there's a lot of good word of mouth going on about his products on the local discussion board. |

| INGO Bishop of Bacon ![]() | I definitely need a bigger safe, I've just been having trouble pinning down want to have/need to have/need but don't know it all while trying to keep the cost affordable.

![]() ![]() | My 2 cents The biggest of my 3 safes weighs about 600 lbs empty. I easily moved it with a refrigerator dolly borrowed from a friend. Didn't have to, and wouldn't try to, go up any stairs with it. The others are about half the size. Having 3 provides some flexibilty along with added capacity. Here's a couple of things I found. You probably already know you need to get a safe rated for almost twice the guns you intend to put in it, especially if your rifles are scoped. A "24 gun safe" might hold 24 rifles and/or shotguns if they're not bolt guns and don't have scopes. My safes have Golden Rod dehumidifiers (electric) in them as well as desicant boxes. If you aren't anchoring your safe to the floor, be careful. You may find it wants to tip forward when you swing that heavy door open..........until you fill it with guns, anyway. ![]()

![]() | Here's an old picture of how we had them setup. Firearms keep finding a home here and I have to keep re-arranging to get them all in. They are both 600+ lbs and are 24 gun safes. Currently, I have 30 long guns in the safe on the right. Anything I don't want scratched goes in Sak-Ups Gun Socks (protect against moisture, too) and then get stacked in up or down. ![]() Going to help my brother tomorrow get his big safe down in the basement of his garage. We're going to use a chain hoist to lower it down. |

![]() | Store More guns I saw this product the last time I was at the 1500 gun show. It is suppose to increase the storage space in your existing safe. Home I thought it was a good idea, any opinions..

![]() | What I am doing for a safe is to convert one of the closets in my house. I am in the process of adding things to it. My main goal to begin with was to have a safe place to keep firearms, jewelry and other stuff from easy accessibility. I didn't like a lot of the other safes because of Cost, weight and size so I thought I could use current square footage. I put a digital/key lock on the door just like one that you would use on an outside entrance door on your home on a solid core door. My next addition is going to be to add security to keep someone from breaking thru the drywall to get to it. I was thinking about lining it with steel sheets screwed to the studs or even thought possibly chainlink fence screwed to the studs from the inside. After that I need to secure the door with a better lock. I thought about one of those magnetic locks like they use on computer rooms battery backed up of course. After securing that I want to possibly replace the actual door with a Hidden door like a bookshelf. It would be an odd place to have one but may hide it well enough to keep someone from spending too much time in the heat of a breakin. I am going to run power in it so I can have lighting and a dehumidifier stick. Also possibly a place to keep emergency equipment charged and ready for use. Even thought about a fire extinguishing system that is self contained. This may save stuff in case the rest of the house burns down. Looking for thoughts that others may have about a project like this. Don't mean to hijack the thread but this seems like a good place to continue the home storage/safe options. |

Did I not hear correctly that some safe manufacturers actually use multiple layers of drywall for their fire protection?
