Stevenlong8 is on a distinguished road
Dems/Reps

As a person of 31, and not buying history class, or anything from the "media" maybe some more of the educated can explain the FUNDAMENTAL differences between the two parties, I really myself hear the same crap from
both sides. If there is a definite separation between the parties , and in the most respectful way possible if some of the folks here that are "more lived " than I, please chime in. I am in need of enlightenment. Can't wait for this response.

I'm not more lived than you, as I'm just 29.

You do hear a lot of the same crap out of both sides, with much of it being whatever they think people want to hear and that will win votes.

Here are some general statements based on my limited research into both parties. Take this with a grain of salt, as both parties probably have many members that could arguabley be considered to be more like the other party's values, etc. These are also generalizations, and it is not to say that all Republicans share the same views and all Democrats share the same views.

Republicans:
Morally Conservative (i.e. Pro-Life, Against Same Sex Marriage)
Support Increasing Domestic Oil and Gas Output
Capitalist Free Enterprise Economy
Embrace Global Economy and Free Trade
Support Strong Military, including intervention globally to protect US and allies' interests
Support 2nd Ammendment

Democrats:
Morally Liberal (i.e. Pro-Choice, Support Same Sex Marriage) - edited because I can't spell "Morally"
Don't support new drilling to increase oil and gas output - especially in environmental preserves or where endagered species may be affected
Generally more Socialist Economic Policies - Spread the wealth, free governmet healthcare for all)
Skeptical of Global Economy and its affect on American Jobs
Favor a smaller military for defense, generally opposed to U.S. intervention globally
Suggest the 2nd Ammendment needs greater restrictions as to what "arms" citizens can own

These are just a few things that I would classify. To get their official platforms, read their websites.

The Democratic Party

This is for humor, but there's more than a shred of truth to it:

Libertarians: are all for personal responsibility
Republicans: are all for personal responsibility, until they get caught
Democrats: Are for a personal responsibility tax

Libertarians: are for state self determintation
Republicans: are for state self determination....except for abortion, gay marriage, free speech, drugs, etc., etc.
Democrats: are for state self determination as long as the federal government says it is ok and they do what the federal government says

Democrats: are all for protecting the environment
Republicans: are for protecting the environment....if there is profit in it
Libertarians: are all for protecting the environment, but think the free market will take care of it and if the bears, lions and coyotes don't like it, it is their personal responsibility to do something about it

Republicans: are for gun rights
Libertarians: are for gun rights but it is up to the states if they want to recognize it
Democrats: are for gun rites as in when gun ownership dies they already have the last rites written out in the gun grabbing holy scriptures waiting for the day to be read

Republicans: are for crime control and tougher sentences
Democrats: are for crime control and tougher leniency
Libertarians: are for letting the black market work it out

Libertarians: are for ending pork
Republicans: are for ending pork in everyone's district but theirs
Democrats: are all for ending pork, but what is pork and for that matter what is, "is"?

Democrats: are for public housing for those not working
Libertarians: are for public housing for those that can pay for it and if they can pay for it, then they don't need public housing
Republicans: are for public housing.....and it is called prison

Also depends on what time frame too. Hell.... JFK would look like a conservative right-wing Republican now-a-days!!!!

Unfortunately, Republicans have learned that there is profit in big Government and are playing the same game too.
