Just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, shortly after CNN projected Barack Obama had won the presidential election, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department began getting calls from residents reporting the sounds gunfire.
There were a dozen such reports between 11 p.m. and 11:15 p.m., in scattered parts of Indianapolis -- from as far north as Middleton Court, as far west as Blue Pine Lane, on Capitol Avenue on the Near Northside and as far east as Mayfield Court , according to police dispatchers and scanner traffic.

The number of reports was typical of an Indianapolis New Year’s Eve, when many people fire bullets into the air and shoot fireworks to celebrate.

Police dispatchers could not immediately say if what people were reporting Tuesday were the sounds of fireworks or gunfire. There were no immediate reports of any injuries from the areas where the reports were made.

Really? I was working out east and it was dead quiet almost the entire night. With the exception of a pursuit the hood was dead. It was the exact opposite as reported...at least about the Mayfield Ct. One of the roughest areas in the city was calm for a change.

About 11:30 there was some sporadic gunfire on the westside.

As far as I know no one was hurt.

Lots of Koolaid Drinkers around here.
