    I shrugged 4 years ago.
I will continue to hunker down, remain invisible, and hoard my capital.
I will wait for a time when it makes sense to invest.
I will wait for a time when the government is not punishing success.
I will minimize my tax burden to minimize the amount I contribute to this socialist regime.

    Who is John Galt?

    Who is with me?

Out of curiosity, who did you vote for?

I went Galt politically a long time ago.

I'm going to kick the crap out of a hornet's nest here...but I'm going to say it anyway...

"Going Galt" has nothing to do with voting, or politics.

Doug, I wish I was in the position to. On the other hand, I selfishly hope my employer does not share your views.

In the sense "Going Galt" is used in the book, it doesn't. But you can walk away from the game of politics just like you can the market place. Politics are what drove Galt away.

    where the work is
I've already been minimizing my tax burden and only use my bank to pay bills. The rest of my cash is going to debt elimination, precious metals, and arms.

I am too overwhelmed emotionally to make any "rational," meaningful decisions of change otherwise right now. There are so many directions I could go, none of them are really very appealing. I work in a nearly militant-liberal dominated industry, so I'm keeping my distance at the moment to make sure I can continue to survive.

...I need to find a different way to associate or a different business altogether.

NO. What drove Galt away was not being paid for his worth. When 21st Century Motors changed ownership the new owners paid everyone the same. Galt walked.

As I understand it, workers were to be paid according to their need, not according to their contribution to the company.
As a single man, Galt had less need than the line worker with 4 kids, so the line worker made more than the engineer.

    Just wait, it's coming.

The only difference will be that actual work won't be required.

Actually it started with everyone getting the same, it then evolved into a socialist "to each according to their needs" pay system.

Don't worry about people "going Galt".

When someone "goes Galt", unless they board up their business and bury their money, positive things happen...

In order to cash out, Mr. Galt will sell his business. Some eager entrepreneur will seize the opportunity and buy it. They might even be motivated to expand it and hire more people.

Mr. Galt will put his money somewhere to protect its value. If he puts it in a bank, the bank will lend it to people who will build businesses or buy stuff. Even if he buys gold, the money will recirculate in the economy.

Mr. Galt will probably want to live comfortably. He will spend money to support his lifestyle, creating more economic activity.

Finally, he won't be competing with others in the job market.

Please, by all means, "go Galt" if you can. The rest of the world will thank you.

Might not Galt 100%, cannot afford to do that.

But doing what I can in spirit....
So far sold 2 of my 5 businesses.
Out of the stock market for the last 2 months.
Need to maximise my profits for this year, and minimize them for the next 4 years.
Be prepared to start over in 4 years.

I'd never heard of this book until I came across this thread.

I love reading books with great stories that really make the reader think.

do you all recommend me reading this book?
