Obama: America "One of the Largest Muslim Countries in the World"


As we noted earlier, and as ABC now confirms, Obama's speech in Cairo will focus on his Muslim roots and the unique perspective it provides him. Obama also teased the contents of the speech in an interview with a French television station:

What I want to do is to create a better dialogue so that the Muslim world understands more effectively how the United States but also how the West thinks about many of these difficult issues like terrorism, like democracy, to discuss the framework for what's happened in Iraq and Afghanistan and our outreach to Iran, and also how we view the prospects for peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Now, the flip side is I think that the United States and the West generally, we have to educate ourselves more effectively on Islam. And one of the points I want to make is, is that if you actually took the number of Muslims Americans, we'd be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world. And so there's got to be a better dialogue and a better understanding between the two peoples.

Surely President Obama is smarter and more worldly than the last White House occupant, but there are not 57 states in the Union -- and if there were, the United States would still not be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world. Eight million Muslims seems to be at the high end of estimates of America's Muslim community. That number barely puts the United States in the top 40. There are more Muslims in tiny Jordan than there are in the United States, and twice as many in Syria.

Obama is undertaking a very significant reorientation of American foreign policy, and one hopes that he isn't doing so on the very mistaken belief that the United States is one of the largest Muslim countries in the world. Actually, if you look at the number of Jewish Americans, we'd be the largest Jewish country in the world after Israel. And America is the largest Christian country in the world. This context might be useful to the president as he tries to help the Muslim world better understand the United States

Hey, Obama, Does 0.6% of the Population Make America a "Muslim Nation"?

As I predicted, Barack Hussein Obama is continuing to practice the 3 "B"s to Islam (Bowing Down, Bending Over, and Butt-Kissing) in conjunction with his Mid-East Muslim pandering trip.

And in that vein, he told Laura Haim of French Television station, Canal Plus, a French television station, that the United States could be considered "one of the largest Muslim countries in the world." (See here also.) Yup, first he said we are not a Christian country in his first pandering trip and speech to the Muslim world in Turkey. Now, he says, we are a Muslim nation.



That's bunk, though methinks that was what he wants us to be.

But here are the facts. Muslims are less than one percent of the U.S. population, despite the "6-9 million Muslims" and "5-8 million Muslims" claims that CAIR gets the liberal mainstream media and clueless idiot so-called conservative bloggers who don't do their homework, like Don Surber, to regurgitate.

Most extrapolations of the U.S. Census (taking into account that most who identify as Arabs in the U.S. are Christian) find that there are less than 2 million Muslims in the U.S. In fact, as I noted last year, the only reliable study, the 2008 Pew Center survey, says that Muslims in America number only 1.8 million in the U.S., or just about .6%.

If Barack Obama is going to claim that a nation with an overwhelming majority of Christians--78.4% according to the Pew Center--is NOT a Christian nation, but is a Muslim nation--with only 0.6% of the population being Muslim--the guy is even more insane or a bigger liar than we originally knew.

But don't expect so-called "conservative" bloggers to get it right. As I noted, clueless Don Surber of a West Virginia newspaper, the Daily Mail (no, not the respected far-left Brit paper, which would never have him), doesn't bother to use a single fact on Muslim population in the U.S. Instead he pulls numbers out of his ass, providing no source for them, when we know the source is the propaganda put forth by CAIR.

With an estimated 5 million to 8 million Muslims, obviously he does not mean by percentage; Muslims are less than 3% of the U.S. population.

Estimated from what, Don? Oh, yes, your butt. PUH-LEEZE, there aren't anywhere near 5-8 million Muslims in America and barely a half-percent of our population, not the ridiculous "less than 3%" claim he pulls out of thin air.
