Glenn Beck brought up the book called Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America's Enemies. The author originally wrote the book to disprove his grandmother, because his grandmother thought McCarthy was a good man. With what is going on with the government today, I am beginning to not believe what was been taught about McCarthy. Has anyone read the book? I am curious to see what facts the author brings up because there documents missing from the library on it.

Ann Coulter wrote something similar.

McCarthy had some points. At the time he was protesting, there were Communists and spies on the Soviet payroll high in the US government, just like he said. This has been proven by recently released US intelligence intercepts detailing who was on the Soviet payroll.

Also, McCarthy is popularly blamed for things that he didn't do, like the House Un-American Activities Committee that investigated Commies in Hollywood. McCarthy was a Senator; HUAC was a House of Reps stunt.

My take; McCarthy was a bit of a windbag who went overboard, and some of his actions made it easy to demonize him. But it's also true the the American Left, especially the media and the academic elites, had a lot to cover for and demonizing McCarthy has been a way of distracting attention from their own sins.

Kirk? C'mon, you know the answer. Same as today, if you point out that someone is a socialist then it's easy for Democrats to demonize you as a "political terrorist," "racist," "Nazi," or whatever.

McCarthy didn't namecall to insult people or drag them off to prison, he just wanted them investigated and fired from governmental service so that they could continue their anti-American work at Harvard or the New York Times.

When the Kremlin released a bunch of the old KGB archives several years back, a lot of unfortunate (for the American Left) information was released. We found that Senator McCarthy was right on much of what he said. We also learned that the darlings of the American Left, the Rosenbergs, were guilty. We learned there were more commies on the KGB payroll here in this country than most wanted to admit. The Left and their willing accomplices in the press always wanted to whitewash what the Commies were doing, always taking the side of America's enemies. Kind of reminds me of something more current but I can't place it right now...

The Left managed to ignore that pile of evidence. The "nuclear freeze movement," for example, WAS organized by communists paid by the KGB working as labor union officers. The apologies somehow never came. I wouldn't be surprised if Barry's family received a few checks drawn on Moscow banks, figuratively speaking.

I would not believe anything you were taught about McCarthy, especially if it was by your leftist teachers.

Ann Coulter's book, Treason, spends about half the book on Joe McCarthy as well. I haven't read the book that you mentioned, but it is on my list of books to read.

McCarthy was demonized back then, as well as today. Only the people who hate him today write history books and teach revisionist history classes. The Left (Democrats) attacked him the way Sarah Palin was attacked in the past year. Imagine if 50 years from now people talked about "Palinism" as if it were a bad thing.

There was rampant treason being committed by high level white house appointees and heads of federal departments. Actual Communist traitors were appointed by FDR, and were giving sensitive information back to Stalin in Russia. They were getting paid from both Governments. McCarthy "named names." He wanted them out.

The Liberal Left were the same socialists as they are today. They protected the traitors and demonized McCarthy. They appeased communist dictators the same way Obama does today.

Over time, the Communists figured if you can't beat them, join them. In their case, they simply took over the Democrat party. Those high level appointees under FDR had residual effects by the ways they taught their subordinates and ran their departments. Turn the Department of Education over to a Commie and before long, textbooks barely teach Americans who they are anymore. That's why today nobody walks out of school today knowing what socialism/communism is and why it is un-American. Over time the socialists have dumbed down America so they could take it over with Socialism.

You are right, it is relevant today and you have been mistaught the history of a great American patriot.

He was a patriot. Communism is so opposite of what America was meant to be. Those people were traitors. Now they have completely joined forces with the Democrat party and are running this country into the ground.

The only difference between a Communist and a Liberal is geography.
