If reconciliation is the 'nuclear option,' the Democrats' plan to force health care reform through a procedural shortcut is a 'dirty bomb'



According to CNS News and The Heritage Foundation, it has been confirmed that the Democratic Party leadership in Congress is preparing to unilaterally pass health care reform using a parliamentary back-door procedure, essentially attaching the single-largest entitlement program in our nation's history to a completely unrelated bill in order to facilitate passage without input from Republicans or the American people.

Behind closed doors. By Thanksgiving. A complete slap to the face to the constitutional representative republic established by our nation's founders, not to mention a spit in the face to an American public finally waking up and realizing that their government doesn't have the country's best interests at heart.

From the Heritage Foundation release:

Step One: “The Senate Finance Committee will finish work on the marking up of Senator Max Baucus’ (D-MT) conceptual framework for legislation by this Friday.” Progress on this had been stalled and the bill was not passed by the end of last week. Foxnews.com is reporting that the Congressional Budget Office score of the bill will be released later today and a high score may further stall progress on the Committee’s Vapor Bill. Senate Finance Committee’s progress on passing something out of committee – INCOMPLETE.

Step Two: Next, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will take the final product of the Senate Finance Committee and merge it with the product of the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP) Committee. CNSnews.com has confirmed that “the actual final text of the legislation will be determined by Reid himself, who will consolidate the legislation approved by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and the still-unapproved legislation from the Senate Finance Committee. Reid will be able to draft and insert textual language that was not expressly approved by either committee.” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will write the final version of Obamacare to be considered in the Senate with no input from the American people. This is an extremely complex procedure that will not be done in public, or in the form of a hearing, or a public conference committee, and only Senator Harry Reid, some other Senators chosen by Reid and Obama Administration officials will be allowed to read the bill before the Senate debate starts. Step Three: Senator Reid will then move to proceed to H.R. 1586, a bill to impose a tax on bonuses received by certain TARP recipients. A senior aid to Senate Majority Leader Ried has confirmed that he will move to proceed to Senate Calendar Number 36, H.R. 1586, or another House passed tax measure, so the Senate can avoid the Constitutional mandate that tax bills originate in the House. Proceed to tax shell of a bill – CONFIRMED.

Step Four: This scenario would most likely be implemented after the Massachusetts state legislature gives Governor Deval Patrick the power to appoint a new Senator and that Senator is seated by the Senate. The Senate swore in new Massachusetts Senator Paul Kirk on September 25th. Change Law of Massachusetts to allow for interim Senator – COMPLETE.

The final step in this plan is for the House to take up Obama care, without amending the legislation, and then sending that bill directly to the President for his signature. Matt Cover at CNSnews.com reports “House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) won’t rule out having the House vote on the Senate health-care bill without making any changes in it, which would allow the bill to go directly to President Barack Obama without having to pass through a House-Senate conference committee and another round of votes in the House and Senate–and a longer period of public scrutiny of what the text of the proposed law actually says.” This scenario is in the process of being implemented and, if successful, it will result in Obamacare being on the President’s desk in time for Thansgiving with minimal participation of the American public.

The idea that the nation's largest entitlement program, a piece of legislation affecting one-sixth of our nation's economy, could be passed through such underhanded means as tacking it onto an otherwise empty tax bill, all the while doing everything behind closed doors, just absolutely blows me away.

From e-mails I've been receiving, I know that Rush Limbaugh has been hammering away at this very scheme for more than a week now, but to think that it may actually become a reality sends shivers down my spine.

This is not a good bill. I know it. You know it. The Democrats know it, and we know they know it -- if the Democratic Party leadership thought this to be good for America, they would have let the sun shine in, and they would have ensured that the program begins long before 2013, that way it couldn't be hung around the ankles of their Dear Leader as dead political weight.

Yesterday afternoon, Erick Erickson at Redstate wrote that he was hearing rumors that Republicans were beginning to cave with regard to health care and were considering supporting a government program. I was surprised, to say the least, and was thankful later on when Erickson gave an update and said that such concerns were overblown. Nevertheless, we need to start calling our lawmakers and start calling them now. Democrats and Republicans alike need to know that the American people will not tolerate this massive legislation being passed through a procedure which reeks of awareness of just what a mistake this truly is.

Likewise, the GOP needs to start hammering away at this plan by their counterparts across the aisle to sneak health care reform through the back door by attaching it to completely unrelated legislation. I want to see advertisements blanketing everywhere, explaining the plan and asking, simply, a few questions:

1. Why do the Democrats feel it necessary to hide and force their health care reform bill?
2. If it answers such immediate concerns in terms of health coverage, why won't it take effect until after 2013?
3. If it's such a good plan for Americans, why sneak it through Congress by attaching it to an unrelated bill?
4. If the Democrats don't view the American people as the enemy, why force health care reform through without allowing the people to see the bill??
   

Republicans need to call their counterparts out to the parking lot and confront them on this one. Force the Democrats to throw up their hands and admit that they simply do not give a flying yahoo about the will and opinion of the American people. I want it all over the news, sound bites on at six, ten and eleven. I want scathing advertisements run around the clock.

This is the time that the RNC and the GOP needs to let loose with whatever money they have in their coffers. This is the time that will make or break the nation as we know it. The Republican Party needs to expose the Democratic Party for what it is -- a group of activist, elitist thugs who cares more for party than country.

I want everybody who understands the difference between liberty and tyranny absolutely seething at the prospect of radical changes in health care being forced down Americans' throats through a parliamentary back door. If the Democrats do this and succeed, it's torch-and-pitchforks time, people. Let's make sure it doesn't come to that.

These folks have been waiting a long time to shove some tyranny down our throats, and stuck in our parliamentary back door. 2010 will be interesting.

Sadly fellas the republic has been dead for a long time, we just didn't know it yet. The people voted for these fascists, and they will get what they asked for. But with every grab for power that our new government makes, we will grow stronger. They will continue to pervert the ideals this nation was founded on, and suck up every bit of power they can get their hands on. And some day soon the American people, the ones who voted them in, the ones were willing to compromise the constitution for civility, the ones who sold the soul of this nation for comfort, those people will claim that this isn't what they asked for, they will change their minds, they will wake up. Whatever does get passed will not be what they have been talking about. I'm sure it will have hidden triggers in that take effect at some point, some states medical costs will skyrocket, some like Utah's I heard get federal funding (state subsidies) so Harry Reid looks like a prince. Then next year they will spend a bunch of the stimulus money and say: look everyone is back at work now, vote for us!

This is starting to remind me of the twin towers. They took years to build, stood proud for a long time and fell within hours of the attack. Congressional leadership is following down a similar path to destruction.
