The high-security prison in New York City where 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is expected to be sent to await his trial has a supermax wing to keep even the most notorious criminals quiet — but it isn't perfect. Just ask Louis Pepe.

The two had been granted permission by a federal judge to purchase hot sauce, says Pepe's sister, which they then stored in a honey jar and used to create a blinding mace. Teaming up against Pepe, they beat and blinded him, covering the floor in his spattered blood. They then tried to rape him as he waited an entire hour for fellow guards to come to his aid, his sister said.

I feel great sympathy for what this man went through. I worked for a time as a correctional officer here in Allen County.

Prison is different. In most jails things are not quite as stressful as in an actual prison. However, I used to singlehandedly babysit 120 accused felons who had some severe anger management issues.

A potential threat could come from anywhere, anyone, at any time. You could get feces thrown on you, stabbed, cut, hit with a hard object, chemical concoction, or just plain jumped by several folks who woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning.

The threat to any prison or jail officer from an accused terrorist would be absolutely no different from the thousands of hardened gang members, Russian mafia, Mexican drug cartel members, or any other group of undisciplined bad guys/girls already locked up in prison, let alone the truly mentally deranged sociopaths that are incarcerated.

I may be out on a limb here but I am getting awfully tired of the fear and horror at bringing these alleged terrorists to the United States for prosecution.

Are we so weak, so pathetic, so unstable as to be undone by these fanatics? Is America hanging by such a thin thread above the abyss that we cannot deal with a few hundred accused? A nation of 300 Million people, who fought in The Great War, who defeated Nazism. A nation who held off the Soviet threat under Stalin, Brezhnev, Andropov. A nation that fought a war on two (2) fronts in WWII. A nation that has survived scandals and corruption at the highest levels of government.

America is better than that. We are a great nation not because of our military might, not because of our accomplishments, not because of our wealth. We are a great nation because of our ideals, our values, and our principles!

I say bring them. Bring all of them. They will be properly tried, properly treated, and if guilty, properly SHOT!

If they are innocent then they will be set free. That is my hope and belief. Every human being deserves their day in court if they are accused. A fair court that will allow evidence in on both sides.

We do not do this to keep protect the guilty, although that does sometimes happen. We do this to keep a leash on government tyranny and abuse of those without power by those who have it. We do this because we have learned through thousands of years of history that those in power will almost always try to keep power, and keep from loosing face. Independent court are a counterbalance to suffering the abuse of the powerful.

Our courts are not perfect. Sometimes far from it. However, I far prefer our American system of Government over any other on this earth, now or any time before.

We are a great nation. There is nothing they can do to bring us down. Only by allowing our fear to drive us over the cliff will America be harmed. Our undoing can only be caused from within, for nothing external has the same strength as a nation of free people who hold true to a cause as universal as Americas.
