A demonstration of a full-body scanner on German television last week revealed that the device, which uses infrared technology, was able to detect little more than a cellphone, a knife, and the girth of the man walking through it.
The problem? He was also packing a bomb.
“Admittedly, he only faced the scanner from the front and not from the side,” wrote computer security pro Bruce Schneier. “But he also didn’t hide anything in a body cavity other than his mouth — I didn’t think about that one — he didn’t use low density or thinly sliced PETN, and he didn’t hide anything in his carry-on luggage. Full-body scanners: they’re not just a dumb idea, they don’t actually work.”
Though strategist James Carville thoroughly debunked privacy concerns regarding the scanners earlier this week (video below), the test raises new questions as to whether full-body scans provide a sufficiently naked representation of airline passengers to be effective.

Don, as was shown, the body scanners do not work. Males and females may see your girth, but they will not see the explosives that you have on you.

The scanners are a scam to humiliate you, treat us all like cattle and unjustly enrich the makers via crony capitalism.

If this was still America, the tar and feather would already await these tyrants and con men at TSA and DHS.

They are also a continued attempt to pretend we can create safety passively by changing our behaviors and views of the world without defending through offense.

Security is a fallacy. At the best, all a machine like this will accomplish is that people will feel a little safer once on board. And as the OP stated, in the process they will take away from our human dignity. Only when we, as a people, realize that we are the only viable guarantor of our own safety, can we achieve security. Instead, we wait for a government panacea, endure the de-humanizing searches, and at the end of the day, we're still no safer.

Emphasis added - as this is the ONLY goal of the TSA and congress-critters in Washington.

If you want real security, you need to look at Airlines in other countries (like El Al in Israel) and the steps they go through to ensure security. Which, btw, would make most people in the USA jump through their skin.

El Al is a model that the USA should be following.. maybe one day we'll wake up and do the same.. IMHO it is less intrusive than what we are now dealing with... even with the profiling of passengers.
