Haven't seen this so if its here please delete/lock out. But just wondered if others had a good hunt with a rifle this season ? If so please tell your story. Mine was the day after thanksgiving at 8:30am with a west wind, had 2 does come out of the woods in a picked bean field and there he was 10pt grossed 138 at 172yds, by far not my biggest buck but his was a nice one. Took the shot with a Ruger American .243 / Winchester 100gr soft point and he just stood there, I thought I missed him so chambered a 2nd round and took a high shoulder shot and dropped him in his tracks. After going up to him the first shot was spot on right behind the shoulder just where I put it. Still not sure why he just stood there "Must of been locked in on the does?" but never the less I got him. Was great to get to use a rifle for the first time and hope others had the same experience. I still hunt thickets with a shotgun but field edges the rifle has took the place of the muzzleloader. Lets here your rifle hunt :ingo:!

Head shot a doe with the 243 loaded with a 80 barnes. Results self explanatory. Shot a 12pt at 180 yds. He ran about 15-20 yds and piled up, insides devastated. Shot a doe with the 300 b.o. with 130 gr barnes. Neck shot dropped in tracks.

Ruger #1 RSI .243 win. 50 yard mover in the woods (fast walk), double lunged, went 80 yards.
Started putting a bit of red on the ground around 30 yards from impact.
Nothing huge, but not hard to follow either. Saw him fall so no big deal on the BT.

Would have been just as dead had I used a MZ, handgun, shotgun or non HP rifle.

I was fortunate to get a buck and doe during early archery. I had three guns I wanted to "break in" on deer this season. A 20 ga TriStar Viper, Smith 629, and a Remington 783 in .243. On the Jan 1st I shot a doe with the 243. It was with my 100 gr Interlock reloads. Shot was only 60 yds and she went about 10 yds. Didn't follow the blood trail but did have entrance and exit. Blew up the top of the heart and part of one lung. Very impressed, but as Hookeye said, this would have been a chip shot shot with any of my other long guns. I just haven't shot my Smith enough to be comfortable beyond 50. Maybe next year.

2 in 10 minutes opening morning. 85 gr Sierra game king handloads out of my Tikka .243. Curious doe at 40 yds frontal heart shot ran about 100 yds. Spike buck sniffing her carcass broadside at 100 yds. Shot right behind the front leg. Down in about 30 yds.

Youngest son, day 2 of gun season at about 8:30 AM, 125" 8 point at 10 yards with my R700 .243 shooting a 95 gr Hornady SST. Put it low through both shoulders and the deer went about 20 yards and fell into a blow-down tangle mess. We have used that combo on speed goats out to 380 yards, but never at a gimme range of 10. Worked just fine.

Good sized doe at 90 yards with my 1949 vintage Model 70 in 30-06. I use factory ammo and the best shooting out of this rifle seems to be S&B 180 grain SPCE.

She didn't take a step. The entrance wound was about pinkie sized and the exit was about 2 fingers. The lungs were disintegrated.

Bought the bundle this year. Got my buck during bow season. Second week of gun I was in the stand late waiting for a group of 3 doe to cross a opening in the woods i had seen them use before. Two popped out just to the right of my stand behind me and made their way to about 70 yards. Shot the first with my .308 and she ran and dropped. Looked up and the second had run to the north woodline around 130 yards. She stopped and looked at me and I looked at her and then it hit me...you can shoot her as well you big dummy. Cycled the bolt and placed it on her shoulder and boom.

It was nice knowing that out until 170 yards I didn't have to think about holding high.

    Near the big river.
100 + lb doe opening day, Ruger Scout rifle, Leupold scout scope, 308 cal.

I was sitting at the base of a tree, deer was moving right to left. 65 yards uphill from me. First rifle kill for me. Standard heart/lung shot. Dead in 30 yards.

Best deer for the pot in a long time, really prime.

Ruger American .308, Leupold scope, with carefully-made handloads - 165 gr Interlock BTSP over 42.3 gr H4895. Shot less than a quarter size hole at 50 yards, 5 shots.
Saw absolutely no deer for the entire 2 days, and also zero for two whole days of shotgun.

My son took a nice doe opening morning with a 243 , broadside shot @ 100 yds . Went about 30 yds . No exit , and zero blood trail . He was using some 75 grain tipped ammo , I believe hornady .

I shot a buck last day of gun season with a 30-06 at about 90 yds . Quartering slightly away . It was dead before it hit the ground . In all my years of hunting I have NEVER seen a deer go down that hard , not even a twitch after the shot ! I was using some cheap Winchester lead nose ammo , 165 gr.

My son took an antlerless with my .458 SOCOM and we both took bucks with our muzzy's. What I didn't hear - and I'm talking to all the people (even here on INGO) that were wringing their hands and worried about blood in the streets and bullets flying through houses - was an increase in accidents, fatalities, property damage...nothing. If anyone has an article where there was an INCREASE due to HPR's I'd like to read it.

A small 3 pointer on day 4 of gun season.
60 yard shot, downhill at about a 60 degree decline.
Brand new Mossberg lever action .30-30 using Hornady LeverEvolution.
Dropped in his tracks. The only deer I saw through ALL seasons.

Got late start, on private land and we moved hay back to storage spot too late this year. But I did see several doe at 190-200 yrds out. not a bad shot but I saw spots and decided to let them walk. NOT one buck was seen all season. Last season I saw 4 bucks in 3 days..took the 9. wide spread. 12 gauge 3inch sabot.

I did get to see a run away beef cow being chased by a van in a cut corn field ... would have been pissed cause it was on our property but i was laughing to hard at this guy for chasing after his cow. It's the small things i guess.

Evening of opening day at 104 yards had a 149 lb 9 pointer take a 150 gr Remington Core-Lokt from my Marlin 30-30 in the shoulder. Ran 30 yards down hill before piling up.

Ruger american predator 308 with nosler partition handloads over varget. I shot a decent 10pt that will go 130 with a broken g2 and g3. He'd be close to 140 if they weren't broken. He was running circles dogging a doe hard and grunting like a new Hunter with his first grunt tube.

45yd shot from 40ft above him. I didn't aim low enough given the short yardage and my skyscraper treestand and spine shot him. Drt......so I thought. 10 mins later he starts kicking so I neck shot him and got to his heart.
