I'm completely new to building ar's. I'm thinking about building an AR 10.
Does ar 10 use same lower as ar 15?
Would ar 10 be significantly more expensive to build?

I'm still on the thinking about stage.
    Thanks for your replies.

And Yes, AR-10s are different than 308 ARs.

308 ARs have different receiver heights so you have to watch what rail you get

To get the best fit get an upper and lower from the same manuf.

So does this apply to 7.62 AR's as well? Is an AR-10 lower for something larger than .308?

7.62x39 can use a standard AR 15 lower as the case length is about the same as .223.

The 7.62x51 (.308) is a longer cartridge all together.

Most of the .308's being made don't follow mil spec. So getting parts that will work together can be a challenge.

If you are still interested in a .308 AR, see Palmetto State Armory. I built one with their parts. It turned out nice. Shoots well. I bought a stripped lower from them and discovered that building a lower is easy. I haven't had the nerve to build an upper yet.

TBH, I think it is easier to build an upper then a lower. I have done a few. They are not that hard to build.

I agree. The only hard part was winding that #$*@ spring for the ejection port cover and holding it in place during assembly. THe gas tube wa a bit of a challenge, but with a jig from Brownell's it went well. I have only done one complete, but if you have the proper tools, it isn't particularly difficult. I recommend Walt Kuleck's book on AR-15 assembly.
