So I bought this blue/black stock from Boyd's for my Ruger American in 22-250

The fit and finish is decent for the price, the real gripe with me is the plastic magazine catch, the reason I say this is this is where the front take down screw goes, and I am just afraid of the screw coming loose, so I whipped this steal magazine catch out

The magazine catch was about .060 thousands long....wow , way oversized, so I did shorten the steal catch.

Here you can see the catch fitted and looking good

I then polished it up and soften the edges, now for a little cold blue, and I will bed the catch solid after range test

Other than your magazine catch issue, how was the fit and finish on your stock. Any other work required for a good fit. I have an american in 308 and have been considering a boyd.

i did a "dry fit" on it last night, and the magazine well was a little tight in the one corner, but some sand paper fixed that, the barrel was off to the right side of the barrel channel just a bit, i opened up the barrel channel as well , other then that, no issues, and i don't feel these are big issues.....i will be bedding the V blocks in this weekend and have more to report on

if you go with one of these stocks the magazine catch is easy to make, and if you ask i can make you one that is very close, and you can do a little hand fitting with a file....

Well here is the good, the bad,and the ugly

The v blocks bedded in nicely, but I got a little heavy with the torque wrench and broke the trigger gaurd, and put a large divit in the stock

Well crap......OK no problem......I got a washer out of the shop, instead the stock so the washer fit flush, roughed up the washer so bedding compound had something to grab on to

Mixed up some bedding compound, dropped in the washer and lightly seated the screw to hold the washer in while the compound cured
    how do i print screen

I thought about doing the bed the washer before I bedded in the blocks, but did not.....should have......
    Trigger gaurd fix coming soon
