I'd say that a P6 from AIM with factory bluing would be nice. If you are set on refinishing it, I'd say get one from AIM, and have it transferred to Ernie at Hoosier Gun Coat (Flash Intro Page) and have the slide finished. Ernie's a great guy, and very nice to deal with. Tell him Nate sent ya

Hmm. This is a toughie. Some people have had issues with the non-reconditioned P225s. That would push me in the direction of the factory refurb for what ever you said it was ($365?).

As someone else mentioned, mags are getting hard to find. That would be the deal breaker for me, as much as I like SIGs.

I'd probably pass this one up, save an extra $100 or so, and pick up a Glock 19. YMMV.

I liked the P6 almost as well as I liked my P226 (the P6 technically wasn't mine, ergo I loved the P226 more). $315 unreconditioned is on the high end for those, though, and the guys are right -- check with Karlsgunbunker or AIM to see if you can find a better price. If that photo is accurate about the recondition appearance though, that's pretty hot.

We only had ours for a couple of months, but it never failed once in the thousand or so rounds we put through it. For a beater gun, it's a good value in price and reliability.

In that case, I'd be inclined to buy the one that's currently in production; not the discontinued one. You won't notice the extra $150 dollars you spent years from now and you'll be happy you got what you wanted and have something for which you can easily obtain parts, magazines, and support.

Gotta agree there, both the guns I'm looking at ( Taurus PT 145, and the P6) I cant find anything for them. No aftermarket anything....PERIOD!! I did hear that you can use Para P14 clips in the PT 145 though.

The P6 has lots of FUNCTIONAL accessories, such as night sights, coatings for the finish and mags. Mags are a little expensive, but I would say that if enough pressure is put upon MecGar, they should be out soon. I remember hearing of someone modifying P1 and P38 Wather mags to work.

The PT145 is nice, having fired one a LONG time ago. I personally wouldnt buy one, but they at least have ergonomics. As far as the company, I leave that up to the owners.

Accessories are nice, but a true defensive pistol is very stock, with very little added on. If a gun is truely designed correctly, then no accessories are needed (at least in my mind). I think you are on the right path with the P6. It is a great gun, easy to shoot and very intuitive in it's control placement (unless you get a weird heel mag release one or something). You can get P6 parts still, places like Numrich. Its a Sig, it wont wear out on you any time soon . As far the G23, its a great gun. But I would not choose a gun for it's "accessories", choose it for it's reliability, service and proven record. You get that with both guns. Handle each one, rent one at some range and begin to develop a good idea of what one you like. G23 and P6 owners are always asking us to shoot their guns at our range (they are VERY proud of their individual guns). Parts availability in the future is of little concern to me in regards to either weapon: The P6 shares MANY parts and springs with the 226 and can be had for less. The G23 is a great gun that has a strong company behind it and is very robust. But handle both before buying, shoot them before buying.

I feel like an idiot for giving up the 2 P6s I have had, I would have let you fire one at our range here in Indy, then make you a decent offer on one of the two!

LOL ah yes, live and learn. I would really like a Glock or a XD, which was what I was going for at first, but a buddy owns a shop here in Bloomington and showed me the PT145. It was small, with a .45 caliber so I fell in love. But I've read many, MANY horror stories about the frames cracking, so I think I'm gonna go a different route. Just making my decision about getting something now or waiting a couple months is killin me lol. I get kinda itchy and have to "scratch" sometimes lol. But thank you very much for the advice, I really appreciate it.
