Originally a Beretta 92 (Duty Gun) and carried a Seecamp BG, then carried a Glock 26 BG. Now I love the Glocks especially in .357 SIG, but the .40's are great too. I think a G23 is also in my future.

I'm actually picking up one of the M5 Ultra X pistols in 9mm as soon as they are available (the website says they are available, but as of yet the 9mm version has not cleared the BATF for importation).

I too love Cigars and have a humidor full ready to smoke. I love Padron Annivesarios (maduro) and CAO's. I may have to light one up tonight.

The last cigar I smoked was yesterday. A Bolivar (Habana). Today I'm leaning toward one of the Rockey Patel Old World Signature Torpedos (D.R.) in the humidor.

DISCLAIMER: Any representation that I may have at some point in time (yesterday) been in the possession of a post embargo illegal Cuban cigar is explicitly denied. Further, any inference that I may have more stashed away is further denied.

Best of luck with the Tupperware fetish!!!!
I'm going to have to write Glock a letter. Mine must be defective. I've shot thousands of rounds out of several .40 caliber Glocks, and I've never had one explode. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I guess I need to try some of those Uncle Joe Bob Super Double-Charged Gun Show Reloads from the next Indy 1500.

Glocks are an overwhelming choice of armed professionals all around the world. There have been over 8,000,000 Glocks sold to date, many to LE agencies and military organizations across the globe. XD's? Uh...I think the Croation army uses them (cause they are built in Croatia). Also, if I remember correctly, XD won the "Bubba's Choice" award in a gun magazine a few years back.

Seriously, if you need a bunch of switches and levers on a pistol to keep yourself from shooting your nads off, do yourself a favor and buy some pepper spray instead. People who are too lazy to develop the proper mindset for safe gun handling are accidents waiting to happen. If you really want an "improved" Glock, get a Smith & Wesson M&P. S&W had the foresight NOT to put a useless grip safety (which locks up the slide if not depressed = FAIL) on a tactical pistol. As a bonus, it's not made in a jerkwater unstable 3rd world country with limited parts availability.

Call me when Springfield makes a pistol that can even BEGIN to compete with the awesome power/size/weight ratio of the Glock 23 or Glock 27. Their 26 ounce, 4.8 inch tall idea of a "subcompact" is laughable.

Glock....accept no half-baked substitutes for the original.

A little. It would help even more if you didn't show up on every other thread discussing Glocks with your "XD's don't explode" and "XD's are safer" nonsense. Some people come to these boards to learn something about firearms.

Back to the original discussion.....I agree that it's mighty hard to choose a pistol over my Glock 23 for concealed carry when I pop open my gun safe. Or a Glock 27 in summer clothes, which disappears under a t-shirt with a good IWB holster. Occasionally, I'll choose my M&P .45 fullsize under a sweatshirt, just because I LOVE that pistol so much.

But tactically speaking, 14 rounds of .40 S&W certainly beats 8 or 9 rounds of .45 in a heavier, harder to conceal pistol, as long as you can shoot the .40 just as well. Handguns are not that far apart with regards to their ability to stop a threat with good shot placement, and I see little if anything that a .45 can do that a .40 can't do just as well. .40 has a VERY good record in actual police shootings, with the high velocity providing more consistent expansion and the middleweight bullets (155-165 grains) providing very good penetration.

If I smoked Habanos, and I'm not saying that I ever have, a Bolivar Belicosos Finos is pure heaven! And the Habana Cohibo Robustos are nothing to sneeze at either!

And when I want to slum a bit, there's nothing like a Padron 4000 maduro!

Hehehehe.... For us here with short memories, this was the OP's question: Anyone else fall victim to the polymer hand cannon?
Of course the XP fits into this category and I was making sure that, number one... I was answering his questions and number two… he knew that there were choices other than the Glock. As far as you comment about some people come here to learn about firearms..... Somebody railing on about a brand that he is locked into carrying by his higher-ups is hardly an informed teacher. I have all types of firearms to choose from and I choose the XD. As far as you being against firearms that have safety devices, well.... that is troublesome to hear from "one of Indy's finest".

If the OP decides to buy a Glock I'm sure he will be well served by it as long as he is careful with his ammo choices. I just hope he doesn't fall into buying what is trendy rather than examining what is available to him. There are many fine firearms out there and they don't all come from Austria.

It wouldn't have changed things. He unholstered the gun and pulled the trigger. I used to use a gun with a thumb safety. I practiced dropping the safety as I drew. It happened automatically. When the gun was on target, it was "hot". Otherwise, it is a club. This makes a Glock and any other safety laden gun the same. You will put it in the condition to fire with the draw. It won't go off, unless your training doesn't include keeping your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.

I also get tired of the exploding Glock comments. I've seen pictures of almost every make and model of gun that blew up. Just like saying too many 10/22 are finicky with ammo, when you have millions more guns out there than other models, you will see more ugly ducklings. I haven't seen one that was proven to be something other than an unsafely high charged round. That will blow up any gun, polygonal or not. XDs will do the same thing.
