If you rack the slide of your gun, and the round doesn't chamber. So you have to release the mag, and then rack the slide again to eject the round.

What would be the cause of the round not chambering?

When the slide was racked, the round wasn't chambered all the way, and the slide wasn't "closed" all the way. It wouldnt fire, since the slide was stuck.

The round wasnt quite in the chamber, but it was stuck until I racked the slide again.

    That is called being "out-of-battery".

Any idea why the cartridge won't go into the chamber? Is it hitting the feedramp? Does it happen with all rounds or just one?

Oh, ok, I gotcha. Well, we had one at FNS last time and it was a squib that wasn't far enough down the barrel for the next round to seat fully in the chamber. I'd expect you've already checked for that, though.

Sounds like the round is chambering but not going fully into battery... Are theses reloads ?

A few things I can think of that might cause that...

Round with too long a OAL, ogive hitting rifling

    Round not properly sized

    Bulged case

Take the barrel out... If the round doesn't drop in and the back end of the case doesn't sit flush or below the hood, there is something wrong with the round.

It was factory, Federal 115 grain.

It happened 3 times, and I wasn't sure what it got hung up on. Ive never came across one before, and had no idea what would have caused it.

I apologize for not explaining it better in the OP.
I did just try recreating it. Nothing happened. And I didn't shoot myself ;)

    More details needed.

Obviously something is not working properly.
Magazine problems, dirty/clogged chamber, weak spring, wrong OAL.
    Pics are very helpful.

Round-nose or HP? Where does it stop (nose on ramp, nose up ramp, lip of the brass on the ramp)?

Did you rack the slide all the way? I've had rounds fail to chamber by not pulling the slide fully to the rear.

I have had it happen to me a couple of times with my XDM 9s...I think both times it was me "short stroking" the slide while trying to chamber a round. In my case it's just my lack of experience with autos. I been strictly a wheel-gunner for 20 years so I'm still learning. I guess it will take some time for me to strike the happy medium - If I pull it back TOO FAR then the slide stop engages....not far enough and I tie up the gun as the OP did.
