I am in the market for my first 1911. I am 26 and would like to be realistic with my budget. Based on prices and reviews, the list of guns I want to look at include:

    Rugar SR1911

    STI Spartan

any other suggestions of guns I should look at? Thanks for the guidance.

I think Buds is running the Springfield Range Officer for about 730.00 seems to have really good reviews.

That would be my 1st choice for a mid-range 1911 as I have owned many. The triggers can be a little sluggish at 1st but tend to shoot in with use. Also very accurate out of the box. I am looking for one as I type but for a project gun.

If you can stretch just a little(back off on the beer for month, lol) and you can truly get the Range Officer for $730, then do it.

And I think you should shoot a 9mm 1911. If you are on a budget, the 9 will cost less to shoot. And who knows you may even like it!:) (sorry CM!)

The SR1911 is a great gun for the money. Mine has been fantastic. Great trigger, very accurate, solid as a rock. I got mine used for 600.

I picked up a SR1911 Commander. My SIL saw it, handles it and took it. I never got to shoot it. He made me a fair deal on it and runs it hard.

Springfield RO 731.00 in 45 and 747.00 in 9MM shipped from Buds just checked.

Do this. Not the absolute prettiest gun but one of the absolute best at that price point. You want pretty, save up and buy a Kimber. Not as accurate or reliable but damn sure is pretty......

For a carry gun, the Springfield Range Officer Compact is quickly moving up my must buy list and you can find them on gunbroker for 730ish (plus shipping and transfer fees)

I have a Commander SR1911 and really like it. Super good shooter out of the box. Trigger is better than the GI Springfield I used to have (my opinion). I am biased toward Ruger, I love their revolvers and have a markII target model that is awesome. Anyway, I gave 600 used for my SR that had not been fired. They are out there for $650 or less.
