The Smith & Wesson E-Series 1911 pistols have really caught my eye and I'm considering one for my first venture into the 1911 world.
I thought I would start a new thread instead of continuing to hijack the "expensive 1911" thread...

Anyway, the main pistol I'm considering is the $800 all stainless E-series. Seems like a great bang for the buck.

I also like the bobtailed version with the Scandium frame, but they are quite a bit more at $1200.
There's also the Performance Series version for around $1400

Looking for more thoughts and experienced opinions on the E-series and Scandium frame guns.
Was wondering what the felt recoil difference was between the Scandium frames and the steel frames.
I want the gun more as a range toy vs. a carry piece.
Might consider it for IDPA - CDP division.

I have read that Scandium frames will gall over time. I'm not an expert, but everything I have read about 1911's is that you want a Stainless steet frame. Of course Stainless can be made in different colors.

Here is a pic of my Pro Series 1911, it's frame is Stainless, although it is black in color.

I think any of those S&W 1911's will work just fine for you. Eagerly looking forward to your first post here:

Soon you'll have them multiplying like mine:

I too will have one of these sooner or later - very nice package for the $$$ and fits my hand nicely as well
it also seems well received in the 1911 community, I'll need to sell one to make room and not sure which one
    that will be yet.........

    I say go for it.

The Scandium gun has a different sort of recoil. Faster. Feels like a fortay only without the torque. I actually find the gun more controllable then my Glock 23. But it does not have the rolling push of a full size 1911.

For what it is worth my advice would be to go with a full size 5" gun for your first 1911.

I've got one that looks like the photo below. It's the scandium version and though I am not as knowledgable about 1911's as most others, the recoil is nothing out of the ordinary, it's functioned great, and looks beautiful.

This may be a little off topic, but I was looking for a 1911 also. Would you guys go with the S&W, Colt, or Springfield? I'm having a tough time deciding

I've got a SA and a S&W, both are excellent. My brother has a Colt Combat Elite that is excellent. Just pick out the one you like best. You are not limited to just one.

Lots of LGS's around here have 1911's to rent. Try a few out and see what you like. For the price, I like my Ruger SR1911. Otherwise the S&W and the SA Range Officer or Loaded would be good as well. Coonfinger a bunch and/or shoot them and see what you like best :)

I really can not argue with any of those choices listed. SR1911, SW1911, or Springfield RO/Loaded would top my list of affordable 1911s

Also, several of the Sig models are really nice, if you can find a good deal on them. Keep in mind they have some parts that are Sig only, but if compatibility doesn't bother you too much, it's a decent option. Out of my three, SR1911, SA Loaded and the Sig TacOps, I shoot the Sig the best, even with a trigger that's slightly heavier than the others.

Good choice I have heard nothing but good. In the same price range a Sig Tradition could be a consideration. A bit more would be a Dan Wesson. You would be very happy you did.
