Guys, I'm in the market for a chunk of metal. Haha...
I love full size 9's, and the weight/feel of a metal framed pistol.
This won't be for carry, just home defense/epic amount of range time since I'm getting a year membership for X-mas :)

I have been looking at a couple different options, but when it comes down to it I keep coming back to either a SIG P226 (with the E2 grips), or a CZ75B.

I have had a Beretta Civilian release M9 before, and know that I like them, but want something different.

I have shot a friends P220 once. First time I ever shot it, every shot made 1 ragged hole at 15ft. Only thing is, I just can't afford to shoot .45, and I don't reload. That is why I am thinking the P226.

On the other hand, the CZ75B looks just as nice (maybe looks a little better actually), and from what I understand is just as accurate.

Price on additional mags seems about the same. Overall dimensions as far as weight/barrel length/capacity are all very close.
They both feel excellent in my hand. The SIG with the E2 grips is amazing, and I really like the short reach to the slide release for my relatively short thumbs...
The CZ feels very comfortable as well...
The SIG costs a little more obviously, but $ isn't too big of an issue as this will be my present to me with some of our tax return this year.

So what's the word....is one better than the other? Is there anything else I should be looking at (barring 9mm 1911's)?

If you have either, please feel free to share some pics...what's a thread without some gun porn amiright?

Wow, honestly that's a hard decision. Both the P226 and 75B are awesome shooters with high quality and accuracy. Just pick one, can't go wrong with either. Or just buy both

I used to have 4 Sigs. Now I have no Sigs and 4 CZs. If that tells you anything. The trigger out of the box on the Sig is better but the CZ will shoot in just fine. And even the less than ideal trigger doesn't effect accuracy. Every CZ I have shot has been a laser beam. The short reach to the slide release on the Sig I actually found to be an issue. My grip makes my thumb ride the slide release causing the slide to fail to lock on an empty mag or sometimes causing the slide to lock open prematurely.

Yep, definitely some fine firearms to choose between but my preference goes to the P226. It just feels better in the hand and has a natural aim to it. It's also happens to be my wifes favorite.

I figured these would be the answers I'd get...haha...

Good point though on the slide release interfering while shooting/thumbs....I maybe have to go hold one again in the shooting position and see what it's like.
I guess Pop's has a 226 in .40 that I could go try out, but it's an older, non-railed, German made with the regular grips panels...

Unfortunately I don't know of any range that has a CZ75 for rent, and none with a newish 226 in 9mm...probably gonna have to just fondle the hell out them both to decide.

And I probably COULD get both....but would rather get 1, and a couple thousand rds of 9mm :)

It's a simple matter to train out of. For a range gun it's no big deal anyway.

Do yourself a favor, and go rent each for half an hour at a range, if at all possible. For example, I was almost ready to buy a Gen 4 Glock, when five minutes of shooting revealed that the style and placement of the new mag release makes me drop the magazine out every other shot...even weak and strong hand only. (Gen 3 was never a problem).

And, since the OP said this is also a home defense gun...I would not recommend buying a gun with a major issue that you have to "train out of."

    "ragged hole at 15ft"

Not exactly a demanding standard, is it?

It was his lane, and that's where he had the target :/ I typically send it out to about 25-30ft for normal shooting...50ft for fun...that's as far as the local range goes to.

The point is, a gun I had never shot, with the first shot being in DA too, and they were all dead on bullseyes.
Which is good for me, since I typically shoot most things a bit left (mostly striker fired guns for some reason).
For whatever reason I shoot hammer fired guns such as his Sig, and 1911's much better than anything striker-fired. Must be in the trigger or weight of the gun itself.

    Definitely the sig.

Really hard choice though...feel them both and which ever one feels better in your hand go with it. They are both outstanding pistols

The biggest difference you'll find people complaining about between the sigs and cz is the higher bore axis of the sig. To me sigs feel so good I hardly even notice it. But I really enjoy my cz's too.

Ok...let me throw this wrench into it...what if I wanted to carry it? I'm not a small guy...and I can IWB a full size 1911 just fine...I know these are both a little thicker, but weigh a couple ounces less than a 5" 1911....anyone CCW either of these beasts?

TurnandShoot, I'm down with that suggestion...just not sure who around here is near the east side of Indy/Greenfield...
