I carry the S&W Bodyguard as a BUG. It's a lightweight slimmed down j-frame and slips very easily into a pocket with a Desantis Nemesis holster.

I like the .38 spl round better than the .380, but the pistol version is pretty much the same size. Ruger LCR has pretty much the same footprint too and there is a .357 version.

It takes some practice to hit what you're aiming at. Accuracy drops off after about 15-20 feet, but as a BUG it fits the bill.

I don't know how you are trying to carry a BUG... If you are wanting something small and I am assuming you are I would pocket carry a BUG. I like Kahr and SIG pistols for this in both 9mm and 380. I know there are a lot of 380 naysayers out there but its a BUG not your primary carry so if it means being on you all of the time vs some of the time take that IMO. But check out both the SIG P238 and P938 if you like that route. Or if you like the Kahr pistols the CW380 and CM9 are both great options!

Smith and Wesson 642 gets my vote. It isn't the smallest BUG, but it is very lightweight and relatively inexpensive firearm that IMO can be deployed from more places than any other BUG (ankle, front pocket, jacket pocket, etc.). In addition, it is absolutely reliable and you can shoot anything from light loaded wadcutters to buffalo-bore heavy 38 +p's that leave the 9mm BUGs in the dust in terms of power.

Depends on how/where and what caliber you are comfy with but this may be an option:

I've carried a bunch of em...Beretta 950BS and 21A, NAA mini-revolvers, Kel-Tec P-32 and P3AT, even a Raven for a bit. These days one of the Kel-Tecs works just fine. I consider a J-frame to be a primary carry gun, not a back up.

    Could be anywhere
I carry a Kel-Tec P11 with the 10rnd mag and stick a 17rnd mag in another pocket. Last time at the range with it put 17rnds rapid fire into the kill zone from 10yrds. Lots of good choices out there though.

Why? As far as I know a gun is as accurate at 20 yards as it is at 20 feet. It depends on the individual shooters abilities, not on the gun.
