Any thoughts or advice on the Springfield 1911 MC Operator? From their website, it looks like they are changing the grips up on it for 2015. Personally, I kinda like the looks of the Pachmayr grips better on it. I found a couple online for around $1050. I realize ~$1000 for a 1911 is entry to mid for most. But I gotta quit spending so much too. I recently made the mistake of picking up a CZ75B just to look at it. And of course temptation got the better of me and I ended up buying one. Normally, I'm a Springfield fan when it comes to 1911's. But I have to admit that I like the looks of that new Ruger Night Watchman too.

I think $1k is way past entry

Agree. That is very near TRP price point. For that money TRP for me.

No knock on the operator at all.

I just like the looks and feel of the MC Operator. Not sure if the price is justified though. I have a Stainless Loaded and swapped the grips for the Pachmayr's and added an Ed Brown Magwell Extension running the Tripp 8-round Cobra Mags. It looks, feels and shoots pretty good. My older brother has the Stainless TRP and it shoots great. I'm just not a huge fan of the texturing on the front grip.

I'm guessing you don;t think the MC Operator is worth the $1000+ then? A $1000 isn't entry for me either. But I've seen plenty of 1911's on here for way more than that. So I'm a little hesitant to cry too much about spending $1000 on a 1911 for fear I might get laughed out of here. :):

Thanks for the honesty about your gun addiction your as sick as I am. LOLpsyko That night watchman is really sweet but at around 800.00 I would have to step to the Operator , but for 300.00 more step to the TRP. and on, and on, and on. Good luck. will say for 550.00 the RIA TACII is a very nice gun for the money!

let me say I have had my Springfield Operator for a few months now, and it is the best 1911 I have ever shot...IMHO
shot just about 1000 rounds threw it, and the trigger pull and shot groupings are spot on.
shot 10 different brands of ammo (brass, steel, aluminum, re-loads) not one FTF or FTE.
don't look for other people to talk you out of a great firearm, for a $ 600 dollar substitute.....BUY THAT BEAST.

Not at all trying to dissuade him. I am dyed in the wool Springer guy. Not a thing wrong with his choice just pointing out other options.
I agree with him as the stippling can be painful unless you have hands as tough as a steam fitter.

Trying to talk him out of the Operator wasnt the intent - the OP mentioned he was trying to stop spending so much money and was trying to give him a viable option - if you have the sickness and the cash by all means get it if you want but I would save a few more $ and get the TRP - :twocents:

I LOVE my Operator, the TRP was just not for me as I get really dry skin on my hands and after shooting the TRP it would look like I just murdered someone.
    Time for the beauty shot.

I compared my Operator to a TRP at the Indiana Gun Club and fit/finish wise there was not much difference and I liked the MC over the TRP because I wanted a rail but not the bull barrel.

You could get a TRP and put Pachmeyer's on it that cover the front strap.
Either that, or have the front strap stippling reduced.

Indiana Gun club has stainless TRP's (non-railed w/night sights) on sale for $1250

I know thanks for the heads up! I was there the other day but I will only buy a full size 1911 with a rail as I put a surefire X300 Ultra on them for HD purposes. And while I love my MC the Dan Wessons blow them out of the water for $300 more.

When I got my Operator I was also weighing it against the TRP with the rail. I went with the Operator for the exact reasons you did. I hate the texture on the TRP. Love my Operator though. Awesome pistols for the money. If I ever upgrade to another 1911 with a rail it will be a Dan Wesson Specialist.
