Found a Colt 1911A1 with US Property stamp.
The problems are in the wrong parts.
I know sights, trigger, safety, barrel, grips are wrong.
Kinda hurts me to look at it but I still like it.
I'll have good pictures tomorrow, but any idea on a fair value?
And can the correct parts be found these days?
    Thanks

you can still buy WWII era new new in the package parts for these.
value? There is no possible way to tell you that without knowing condition and how bad it's been bubba'd or even if it is all original without seeing it.

Someone tried to turn it into a meu pistol. It's far gone from its original form. Lots if guys like those like that. I was gonna build one but didn't have the stomach to tear apart an original piece of history. But if I ha one already done I'd just leave it like that.

I kinda figure the value got cut way down didn't it?
I wouldn't have the heart to do that myself. That is why I have the ARs and 10/22s. Do whatever you want and add to the value.

Happen to have a rough guess on value? I myself didn't think it was worth more than $500 knowing parts to make it right won't be cheap.
    Thanks for the info.
May just look for a new 1911. It'll be my first.

Someone looking to make a MEUSOC clone or a retro carry gun would like that if its free of pitting and markings are strong. If thats a bushing comp I'd pull it off, fit a bushing, and carry it. If not usgi barrel turn up on eBay fairly often. If you decide to sell it PM me.

On the bright side, nothing you will do in restoring the gun to its original form will hurt the value. All of the parts are available to restore the old girl, but they will add up over time. Since it will never be a numbers matching, high dollar original again, maybe you can do a pseudo restoration with original external parts as you can source them, but with fresh internals to make it a nice shooter. The slide will be your big expense there, but you can recoup a bit of that cost by selling the bubba'd old slide. With original external parts, a replacement slide and a repark job, it might be restored to 90% of it's original glory, even if the value is still fairly low.

You guys really think that all those thousands of GI 1911's that have been worked on over the years have lost their value just because they are not bone stock and GI issue?

I won't name a value, but it would go right along with any customized or updated 1911. It certainly is individual to every pistol being considered. I have shot a few worn out GI 1911's when I wore green to know they don't have much value. And by the early 70's, they were all worn out sitting in the armories. My unit had 7 and I cleaned them once a month. They were all junk from WWII.

Many great pistols have been built over the years using the GI pistol as the basis.

That comp sure is ugly though.
