![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | M&P9 or XD9...anyone have 'em? Hi, I'm looking to see if any fellow INGO-type people might have either a M&P 9, either the "standard" size or the compact with magazine extension? Or either the 4" service or the 4" "compact grip" XD in 9mm? I've never shot either of these pistols and I'd like to. The only things I have to go on are the physical stats of these vs. the physical stats of a G-19. In just about every statistical category, the G19 "wins"...lighter...shorter...thinner...lighter trigger...etc etc. But in the subjective arena, I think that the MP is the winner on looks and in grip comfort. And if any owners of the above mentioned pistols are pondering a trip to Atterbury shooting range this weekend (Sunday?), if possible, I'd like to fire your weapon(s)...with my own ammo, of course. Also, if you own the above weapons AND a G-19, a first-person account of each's strengths and weaknesses as compared to the XD and/or MP, well, I'd like to hear those, too. Thanks. ![]() -J-

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I recently acquired an M&P 9 PRO Series. I don't have a negative thing to say about it. The ergonomics are teriffic, the trigger is great, the sights are great, it's accurate, fun to shoot and it looks good. So far, I would highly recommend the M&P. I won't go to Atterbury, but if you're ever in my neck of the woods, we can jet over to MCF&G and you can try it out there.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sorry can't help you with the M&P9 but I have the M&P40c and love it. Most of the gun store people I've talked to around here traded their ZGLocks for an M&P and never looked back. I really like the interchangeable back straps this helped me tighten up my groups once I found the grip that fit me. I'm also thinking about the M&P 9c for my wife but she really like revolvers. I would find a range that will let you rent each of the guns you are looking at and see which you like best. ![]() Good luck!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I own both and really like both.... But I carry my XD more. I really like the grip safety. These are my lighter cary guns. Both are worth the money and are high quallity guns. But I carry a CZ 90% of the time.

PLUS I do like the grip safety. I know I know, if you don't pull the trigger it wont go bang, yada yada yada. However, When I holster, esp IWB, I would hate to have something pull that trigger by accident. When I holster my xdm I do it with force on the slide and I do not depress the grip safety, this way it will not fire, even if it gets snagged. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks for the responses so far. I DO appreciate it. VUPDBlue: Is the trigger any different on the Pro series vs. standard? I think I remember reading somewhere that they're a little "tighter" and not so mushy as the standard? Or am I making that up? I've dry-fired the MP at a few shops... And the trigger IS a little "mushy" as compared to Glock and XD. I've fired 2 different XD 45 pistols... They were "OK", but for me, the .45 versions are just too big/heavy to carry IWB. The grip safety on the XD doesn't really matter to me, actually. It's so insignificant that I don't notice it; not like the safety on a 1911 which, IMO, is too intrusive. And being the Walther P99 fan that I am, I LOVE the idea of an interchangeable backstrap. And those "soft textured" grip panels on the MP just seem more comfortable than an XD's grip. Not saying that the XD is "uncomfortable", though. I guess my research continues. I've got the INGO Picnic on my calendar, but I need to run it by the wife to see if she either A) wants to come with me, or B) will allow me to go. ![]() What's prompted this is that after the gun show, I'm the "proud owner" of a brand-spanking-new G19... That I'm debating selling. LOL -J-

First, all of the three work very well. None of them had any functioning problems. The M&P I thought had the best trigger, followed by the Glock, then the XD9. Of course, I don't much like the trigger pull on any of them, I think it feels funny, but that's how I ranked them. Accuracy is objective, though, and the same order holds in this category, as well. I like the sights on the M&P best, followed by XD then Glock. Some folks say the factory Glock sights are prone to breakage, but I never had an issue. Of the three, they are the fastest and easiest to pickup, but hardest to shoot for accuracy with because they are pretty big. I found the M&P to be the best compromise between speed to pick up, and ability to shoot accurately with. I also liked the way they were shaped, nice and easy on the hand. The M&P does not require you to fire the gun to field strip. Both the Glock and XD do, and I hate that! I like the fact that the M&P is available with a manual safety now, though Cathy's did not have one. I like the grip safety on the XD. It functions invisibly, and neither Cathy nor I ever had an issue with it not engaging with a normal grip. It's actually nice when holstering into a tight holster, the slide won't come back ![]() Feel in the hand is entirely subjective, and you can evaluate that for yourself. As you are doing, try to shoot them! I love the way the M&P 9c feels in my hand, but when shooting it feels like it's squirming around trying to escape. Takes some getting used to, and my wife never did. Objectively, there's frankly no wrong choice to be had between M&P, XD, and Glock. Subjectively, among the compact versions of these guns my choice would be the M&P simply because it feels good, I like the way it carried, I was able to shoot quite accurately with it, and it's now available with a manual safety.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have an M&P .40c (same size as M&P 9mm compact) and a Glock 19. The M&P is a little bit smaller overall, with the grip being particularly shorter. The M&P is a great shooter and is often my carry piece. It feels completely different than the Glock 19. The grip is smaller and can be customized with different backstraps. Both guns have been 100% reliable. I don't really have a favorite between the two, but the (stock) sights on the M&P are better IMHO. |
