The .40 is a dead, obsolete caliber.

    Just kidding.

With the advancements in bullet technology, the 9mm does everything the .40 does but with less recoil, meaning faster follow up shots, higher capacity and cheaper on the tax payers.

What Big Tanker said. Plus...there's a fad factor involved. A lot of people like to buy what they see other people buy, what they see on TV, what LEOs and armed forces carry. Can't deny that the 9mm is cheaper to shoot.

I'm [STRIKE]glad[/STRIKE] lucky I never bought into the hype. I'm happy I ran .45ACP as long as I did, happier now running 9mm.

    /thread.

I started with 40 in the early 90s because it was slightly hotter than a 45, I could get a couple more rounds in the gun, and it had a flatter trajectory than a 45. It was like a 45, only better.

I have since seen the light of the new tech and ditched my 40s.

(well, except my Colt45 and Olde English 1800 :):)

I have actually picked up a couple as a result of people ditching the .40. A Beretta 96A1 and a Gen3 Glock 35.
I like the .40 myself, but I do admit to carrying 9mm as EDC, for no better reason as I shoot the 9mm better.

I had a couple .40 HiPowers, but eventually traded those off for 9mm HiPowers. Because I'm a purist, and HiPowers are meant to be 9mm.

I never picked up any other .40s.

I would switch to 9mm but I am so heavily invested in .40 that I would lose too much money to switch. I like the .40 round just fine. I have no trouble with the recoil but I load low to medium rounds. However when I was looking to build a pistol caliber AR I would've switched everything to 9mm if I could've. Would've made that gun a lot cheaper.
