Looks like Dan Wesson is putting out some new flavors, Of particular interest is the Commander Size A2 looks like it will have a MSRP of around $1300.00 Has anyone heard anything about them? Seems like it has every item on my wish list.

Only 200 will ever be made, personally why not just buy a stainless Valor for like $200 more it has so many more features. Honestly buying a relatively "stock gun" like that from Dan Wesson is not smart imho. Now the new Commander sized Specialist that I really like

Just curious why not a relatively stock 1911 stock Dan Wesson? It has most of what I would like, arched main spring housing, Commander size, non stainless, small safety.

Dan Wesson does higher end "Semi-Custom" 1911's designed to compete with the Springfield Armory TRP Series, Les Baer and even Wilson Combat to a lesser extent. It is not in their particular business model to appeal to the "lower end" 1911's as many many manufacturers already make a "GI Style" 1911.

Again that was a very limited production run and people got wind Dan Wesson was involved and prices shot up.... A cheap Dan Wesson is still $1200 minimum

Well isnt the DW the OP speaks of a limited run? :n00b:

You are correct, I have a feeling all "GI Style" 1911's Dan Wesson will ever make will be limited run. Now keep in mind the original CZ 1911 that everone likes was a production run of 1000, that is 5X the number of A2's that will be made something tells me only a few shops will get them. Now due to the MSRP of $1300 I do not see prices climbing like they did with the CZ 1911 because for that much cash you are getting into Pointman territory.

IMO Dan Wesson makes stuff that can compete with 1911's far above their price point. I want a Heritage bad.

There are still CZ 1911s to be had out there for under $800. That's a steal given the quality of the gun. The Outdoorsman in Greenwood has 2 and The Men's Toyshop in Nashville has one for $769. When I compare my CZ 1911 to my DW CCO, the quality is every bit as good with one exception: The rear face of the extractor is not as nicely finished. Other than that, internally they are identical. Forged frame/slide and tool steel ignition components with a true radius sear and DW quality for less than $800 really is a steal.

Because I read and respect all of Tim's opinions on CZ's and 1911's, I got one of these CZ marked ones.

All these years of never having a 1911 of my own, this one made sense. I really wanted a vintage Ithica but maybe I'll find one of those another day. I've wanted a 1911 since I was a kid, I simply never found one that I felt I could justify the price.

I'm about ready to take it shooting tomorrow. Cleaning it up and looking it over, it seems very well put together, but I don't have another 1911 or the experience with them to rate it. You're right about the rear end of the extractor being a little rough. But that doesn't bother me, I just notice it.
