![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Springfield Armory 1911 Does anyone have any experience with the Springfield Armory 1911s? I am looking at the mil-spec model with the stainless steel barrel and better sights than the GI model. My carry gun will always be my Glock 23 so this will be just for target shooting at the range. I'm really looking at the Springfields because their price point is pretty reasonable, they look great with the cocobolo grips, and I have a positive opinion of the company in general. At this point I'm just hoping to hear from others who own one of these to get their pros and cons. Also, are there better brands for the price that I should consider? I know that a Kimber or Dan Wesson is going to be better, but I'm not going to be able to spend that kind of cash.

![]() | Springfield MilSpec 1911's are very good guns. You get alot for the price, lowered and flared ejection ports, better sights, beveled mag well and they polish the feed ramp and throat the barrel. It is a great all around gun, or a great base gun to build on if you. Getting this model will allow to see what you like and what you may want to add like a beavertail, rounded hammer, different sights, extended safeties etc. But you get to choice which parts and from whom if you desire to do so.

| wheelman for hire ![]() | I agree the springfield mil spec is a great 1911 to start off with. Its my choice for carry gun. And I found out today that its more accurate than I thought. Before it was just me that needing improved, lol. And from the factory it'll eat anything I've put through it.

![]() | Can't go wrong with the Springfield 1911's. My mill-spec A1 is a dream. I would replace the magazines with an 8 round nighthawk custom. picked it one up today at Whitakers for 21 bucks. My brother picked up the GI 45. Great shooting gun but ejected casing tend to bounce off your head or into your shirt pocket. Not a bad gun for woman in bikinis |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Excellent! Thanks for the information so far! I handled (okay, fondled) the GI model at Bradis recently and it felt great. I love my Glock but this SA 1911 was awesome. Plus, now I can completely stay out of the Glock/XD vs. 1911 debates as I'll have no dog in the fight! Also, I read somewhere online that the mil-spec will be able to handle JHP loads. Does this mean that the GI model doesn't feed them as well, or was the information incorrect? It'll mainly be a paper puncher for me, but it may be carried occasionally as well. Anyway, keep the feedback coming!
