![]() | You want the old gorgeous blue Colt finish, get an old Colt that still has the finish on it if you can find one, otherwise....I see a professional refinishing job in your future. If you try the steel wool etc route, you'll likely end up with a finish you like even less than what you've got now. |

![]() ![]() | BE Mike: That finish on the GI model may be parkerizing, a no nonsense finish. Parkerizing is a dandy base finish for DuraCoat or other such finishes. Many of them require that the base steel be "roughed up" so that the finish will adhere to the metal. If you sand that steel, you may very well be removing the finish on it. I don't sand that well, I would probably send the pistol out to be refinished professionally and you make the choice of finish.
