![]() ![]() ![]() | The early 17's and 19's used non-captured recoil spring assemblies as well as some other internal changes. If you have one of the early ones, you can send it back to Glock for a free upgrade, which I have done.

| Marksman | I have also been told the extractors on the 3rd gen glocks like the 17 are different from the older gens. Basically the 3rds have a type of hump to act as a chamber indicator where as the 1st and 2nd gens are smooth and flush into the slide. The pic below is of the extractor on a 3rd gen Glock 17. Pic provided from Stephen Camp's website "Hi Powers & Handguns." ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The whole "Generation" nomenclature refers strictly to frames; other changes/upgrades like the captive recoil spring assembly and LCI extractor are made midstream and are backward compatible (i.e. can be retrofit to older guns). And don't even get me started on the magazines, which have an entirely different generational designation system...
