    | The whole "Generation" nomenclature refers strictly to frames; other changes/upgrades like the captive recoil spring assembly and LCI extractor are made midstream and are backward compatible (i.e. can be retrofit to older guns). And don't even get me started on the magazines, which have an entirely different generational designation system...
