Carrying firearms half-cocked is a bad idea in general. I know you've done it for years with leverguns, but that doesn't make it OK. There's a lot of ignorance about what the half-cock notch is for on firearms, but it is plain fact that they are not a safety! Do not use as such and you and those around you will be better off.

Carry the 1911 as intended and only as intended, cocked & locked.

Actually, according to Colt ( Colt's Manufacturing Company LLC 1911 reproduction at the bottom of the list.... page 25 ) cocked, round chambered, and safety on is referred to as "mode 3"

But I've always called it "condition 1"

This "condition" and "mode" crap is arbitrary because it's different for each person depending on how they originally heard it. It's like stages of a car. Stage 5 according to what scale?

Cocked & Locked.

We use Red, Yellow, and Green for what it's worth.

Green, no mag in the weapon/no rounds in the tray.
Yelllow (aircraft loaded), belts over the bolt, bolt foreward, magazine in, no round chamber.
Red, round chambered or bolt back if its an open bolt weapon.

I always heard it called condition 1, 2, and 3.

I carry mine cocked and locked.
Which makes us 100% on this thread so far.
