Browning Buckmark 22 LR handgun

Does anyone in the group own a Browning Buckmark 22 LR? I got this the same time I got my Ruger Mark 1 and it seemed like a nice shooter but I always favored the Ruger because it just seemed better built to me. I am dusting off my 22's for target shooting after I got a wake up call on the price of 44mag and 357. Last ammo I bought was at a gun show is So Bend around 2000 or 2001.

Has anyone shot both the Ruger Mark 1 and the Browning Buckmark and can give me their opinion on one gun vs the other?

sjstill will become famous soon enough
Had one of the Buckmark Camper's and put probably close to 4000 rounds through it, functioned great.

Traded it for a Silhouette model, and it is boringly accurate

Have a Ruger 22/45, too. Like them all. Hard to beat a .22 pistol.

I've got a Buckmark Field 5.5 which is the bull barrel model with a weaver rail on top. Like Steve said, "boringly accurate". It's got a nice cris trigger and will feed/shoot almost anything, including low velocity match ammo. I shoot this every time I go to the range for practice in sight picture, breathing and trigger control. With the red dot reflex sight it's even more accurate. More accurate than I can hold. You just spend your time shooting the little black bulls out of the targets and then trying to trim the little paper shards off the inside of the hole. The Buckmark and the Ruger are about neck and neck. Depends on your personal fit and taste.

Browning Buckmark

I have had one for years. It's one of the originals with the flat sided barrel.I shot it stock for years but a couple of years ago I added contoured walnut grips and a 2x scope. This thing is way more accurate than me. Everyone at the club loves to shoot it. My son just wants me to give it to him now instead of having to wait until I kick the bucket!!!

Don; where did you get the grips, they look really sharp. How do they feel in your hand, do they improve your grip?

Buckmark

The grips came from Browning. I don't know if they are still available. If you look closely at the picture, you can just make out the Buckmark logo that Browning uses.
They are contoured for a right handed grip. I think they had lefties too.
I like the way they feel. There is a slight trigger finger recess and shelf on the right side but it is not as pronounced as the thumb rest on the left. I have had them for about 5 years and I think I paid over $50 for them.

Those are factory grips, I replaced mind with regular plastic as I have sweaty hands and the uncheckered wood would just get too slick when shooting indoors.

I have a Buckmark 5.5" Pro Target and I love it:

I've only had one issue and that was with the disconnector spring getting worn out, a little tweaking got it back on track until I replaced it.

The only Rugers I've shot is a 22/45 and a Mk III? with a 10" bbl. From what everyone with the MKIIIs says, they are a pain to disassemble for cleaning, my Pro Target isn't much fun either as in order to remove the bbl for a real good cleaning, I have to remove the weaver rail that runs along the top of the barrel and slide assembly, this requires removing the rear sight hood, not something I like to do as it mars the weaver rail.

I liked the Ruger 22/45, but I didn't shoot it that much.

One thing I like about the Buckmark pistol is that if you end up with a Buckmark rifle, you can interchnge magazines.

I've tried them all-Sig Trailside, Smith and Wesson(don't remember the model), Ruger, and Buckmark. The Buckmark is the one I've kept through it all. I just picked up a used one like pictured above with the flat sided barrel. Great guns.

Dad has a 5.5 Field target as well. He also had a Varmint with an aimpoint on it but sold it!

My Browning Buckmark Camper

I just got a Camper and have put over 1000 rounds through it and it was superb. If you own a Glock this is a great range pistol to work with since the sites to me seem like using a Glock since you have to cover the target area you are aiming for.
I am using Fedral ammo and will not use Remington loads anymore in it since I had too many rounds not fire and I was trying to break the gun in and it is hard to just fire off rounds when they do not go off.

I've got a camper with a few rounds through it; I love it. It fires consistently with even the cheapest ammo, and is very accurate. Definitely a keeper for me.
