Listening to what others are saying is good. Getting your hands on some tools and deciding what you will use them for and what you like is much better.

There are plenty of opinionated fanboys out there...as well as the armies of the misinformed who are only too willing to tell you what is and is not right. They may be right...for them. In the end it's like buying anything else...it's only the right thing if it makes YOU happy and does what YOU want.
