I'm a liar

Thats right... I'm a liar. I joined this forum and I am not a gun owner! But I want to be. Hence the reason for joining! I'm 23 year old guy from Anderson/Muncie area. I have zero firearms experience, but I have been reading alot online and researching and have came to the conclusion I want to make the step. Hopefully I can get some good information here?!? Thanks!

Welcome to the site.

You're right, there is a ton of good information here. Feel free to browse around and read a lot of what's already here. Also feel free to ask questions. You're sure to get a lot of good, and a few questionable answers

Welcome to the site!

If you have a question, it's probably already been asked, so look around and use the search feature, first.

On the other hand, everyone here is pretty friendly to the new guys (usually... watch out for those people with the "Moderator" buttons under their names) and is willing to answer questions and/or post links you might find relevant.

If you need someone to go to the range with and show you the ropes, just holler! There are about 900 people who would be willing to make the time to help you out.

Wow... What a welcome!

How would you all reccomend learning firearm operations and the such. I am applying next week for my gun permit. I have a family member that is offering to sell me a Ruger P89 for a decent price (according to my research). I know not to buy with out trying, how do I find a range to try a gun at? What about other guns I have looked at, out do I get the chance to try them out? Is there a handgun that you would reccomend for a first timer? I know a question like that is EXTREMELY open ended, but I am sure you all can tell how there is just an OCEAN of information out there!

Start with a good floatation device. Find a basic firearms course and then spend some time getting comfortable shooting at a range.
Many ranges offer rental guns to try out. I have a P89 which has been good for me for many years. If you have a good deal, go for it!

Like ATM said, take a class, find a range that rents out guns, get some time in... It'll help get you up and running. I'd personally recommend a .22 for a first timer. It's a small cartridge, doesn't have hardly any recoil and isn't all that loud. It's a good starter 'cause when you're new, even some of the smaller stuff can feel like and sound like a cannon in your hands... After that, just find something you're comfortable with...
