    Good!

I never understood why Texas is labeled such a state with lax gun laws. There are a dozen or so states with better (For gun owners) laws on the books than Texas. This is a move in the right direction for them.

The people that label them that way are either from California, or the media.
Do I need to point out more?

Good point. Had he ever made a statement against it? I don't recall any sort of conversations in this regard.

I do not recall Perry saying anything about open carry. The problem was in the legislature not the Gov's office.

IIRC open carry was chubbed in 2011 and 2013. We shall see what happens in 2015 in Texas.

Texas appears to be in line to become the newest open carry state.

Texas appears to be in line to become the newest open carry state. On Wednesday, the Lone Star State’s new governor-elect Greg Abbott reiterated his campaign promise to support the open carry of firearms in his state.
“If an Open Carry bill is passed by the House and Senate, I will sign it into law,” Abbott said the day after being elected. “If Open Carry is good enough for Massachusetts, it’s good enough for Texas.”

Greg Abbott has stated he will support open carry legislation in the past. I'm glad he will really do it!

Was Perry against it? I realize Davis would have vetoed it but was Perry the reason why it never got to his desk the last several years? I'm glad he'll support it but I don't know why this is news.

As I said in the other threads, I don't see how the Gov. is the problem.

The problem in '11 and '13 was chubbing in the legislature.

The proper question is whether the Texas legislature changed, not the Gov.

All I know is that if Texas goes open carry, OC Texas will rejoice...and then they'll all look at each other an say: "so what are we going to do for fun, now"?
