Seems there was the possibility for this to have turned out differently. (Would have been a real crapper for the anti-s, eh?)

I think this was the ideal situation. Someone who COULD have stopped him but was prevented by a rule that the perp didn't follow and the victim was only injured instead of killed.

Had the victim also ignored the rule and succeeded in stopping him they would have been able to ignore it or make excuses.

It does illustrate the argument well. Too bad he or anyone ended up dead there.
Luby's! OK I am going to go back and re-read the case. I was likely in elementary school when that happened although I did see an interview with the woman who sued. .357 in the car and the perp walked right by and killed her mom I think....

EDIT: 1991!!! Dang. Make that young adulthood...anyway yeah that's it below......

    Where's the bacon?
Yep. I was still living in TX back then. Haven't watched the vid or looked at anything about the case in a long time... months, maybe a year or two. Let's see how I do from memory.

Susanna Gratia (later Hupp, and later still, State Rep.) went to lunch with her parents. TX law forbade her to carry, but did not restrict her keeping the gun in her car. She removed the gun from her purse a week or so prior to this incident, and it was in the vehicle, in the parking lot. Charles Henard drove a pickup through the front window of Luby's in Killeen, TX, exited the vehicle, and began shooting people, one by one. Police were called, and the Gratia family, among others, hid behind overturned tables. Miss Gratia (don't know if she was a doctor yet) went for her purse, then remembered she was unarmed, her gun no more help to her than if it had never been given to her by her friend. Her father felt the need to do SOMEthing to stop this, and charged Henard, shot in the chest for his trouble. Henard went the other direction, around the room, and by this time, police were starting to arrive. Miss Gratia saw an opening, went to grab her mother and escape, and on arriving outside, saw that she was alone. Police later reported that Henard put the gun to her head and squeezed the trigger, and her parents died together.

Fast forward months later, and she gets herself elected to the State House, fights for, and passes CC in Texas.

I'm saddened that she had to go through what she did, but happy that their deaths were not in vain.

If only we were able to use examples like this on larger scales, so fewer would die to violence by criminal evildoers.

Also... I'd have loved to have been there to wipe the smug look off of Schumer's face with the floor. That guy needs something, but what, I can't say. I won't wish evil on anyone, but at the same time, I wouldn't shed a tear if it befell him.

    Blessings,
    Bill

I'd love to see an enterprising attorney put together a liability lawsuit against the university and the State of FL for both prohibiting them from protecting themselves and also failing to protect them.

Gun rights activist shot during FSU shooting.

He he followed the rules, the shooter did not. Go figure.

Florida State shooting victim was concealed carry advocate disarmed by gun free zone

I went to a local university in the Indianapolis area about 10 years ago to finish my degree.
Firearms were forbidden there, but I carried a Glock 27 pistol in my book bag anyway.

I just SHUT UP about it, and never left my book bag unattended.
    Had ZERO problems.

So unless they actually make you pass a security checkpoint, then just shut up about it and carry it!

    THIS!!!!

I say if they want to force us to be vulnerable, they should be liable for any damage caused. Enough pain in the courts (or wallet if they find the cost of protecting us is too high) and they may decide a GFZ just isnt worth it.

I especially liked the idea here a while back where suggested laws would require GFZs to provide provisions for checking firearms (like at a casino, jail, etc) . Make it painful enough and they may decide disarming us just isnt worth it anymore.

I just think it's ridiculous that we as college students are treated as if we can't handle having a firearm on campus. Might as well make having a bachelor's degree a stipulation for applying for a carry permit. Like I've said before, supporting Students for Concealed Carry is one of the best ways to move in the right direction.
