    Is it safe to shoot modern ammunition and what is the chamber length?

    modern ammo should be safe, as long as you use something that has a LOW dram equivilant IE. none of the high power hunting ammo.... also you should try to stick to high brass shells.... chamber length is almost definatly 2 3/4

    I cannot tell from the photos, but this may be a damascus or stub-twist Barrel, in which case you do not want to shoot smokeless powder in them , even squib loads can blow them.

    There are proof marks stamped at the reciever and barrel block, those marking will indicate what proof this barrel and action are proofed for. Please have this checked out before firing.

    Also, both 10 and 12 gauge of the era had 2 1/2 and 2 5/8 recievers available, and common. Please make sure you know what the chamber length is, and do not try an use a modern empty shell to acertain the chamber length.

    What a beautiful weapon, I have a similiar model in 8 gauge.

    needed to add this looks to be a twisted steel barrel and is in very nice condition ! an would be safe for modern day ammo....
