Next build is going to be a 300 (lower is already done). My question is do they make 20" barreled uppers for this? I can only find 16" and pistol uppers. I'm fine going with a 16" but figure I'd throw this out there. May not be looking hard enough.

.300 blackout was built for short suppressed barrels. Any barrel length past 16" (less actually)is a waste as it provides no benefit over shorter barrels as far as velocity goes.

:+1: With the added note that pretty much any benefit with length over 9" is pretty negligible. (If my memory serves me right.) So optimally, I'd say 9" and either SBR it or SigTac it.

May I ask why you're deciding on 300 BLK over 5.56 or a different caliber? The biggest positives about 300 BLK is running subsonic ammo suppressed out of an SBR. If you want velocity and a long barrel, then 5.56/6.8 is your answer. What's your intended use?

Already own 2 in 5.56 and 1 in .450. The 300 was just appealing to me. If the HPR law passes for deer season next year then this would give me another option. The 16" barrel keeps me from buying tax stamps. A suppressed, SBR would be sweet though.

Good idea. My 10 year old Son is a little 'skeered' of that big ol fo-fiddy. I think the 300bk would be great to deer hunt if the law changes. I got my 8pt with the 450. It was sweet.

300BLK in 16" is going to give you a couple hundred more FPS on supersonic loads vs. a 8-10" barrel. The only significance of that is that it extends the max effective range by a few more yards.

I think you are on the right track...16" if you don't want to go down the SBR / Pistol Route. 8-10" if you want Pistol or SBR. The 300BLK works great on deer and would be a great choice for next deer season.

My first AR build was a 300blk. Loved the gun and the round. only issue I had was ammo availability. Ammo can be found just have to always be on the lookout, that is unless you reload.

The velocity difference between a 10 inch and 16 inch with a Sierra 125 grain SMK was 90 feet per second.

I built a 16" upper and when I get my "mommy may I" for SBR I'll saw the end off. Probably do a 5.56 as well. (when I say saw it off, I mean turn it down on the lathe, crown it and thread it)

I built my .300 BLK in a 7.5 pistol barrel & I was surprised how accurate it's. I can keep a softball sized pattern at 100 yards even with my bad eyes. It is a great light weight deer killer too with 2 does down I hated puting it down for my heavy muzzleloader.
With the changes coming to Indiana's deer hunting regs I most likely be using high power next season.

OK so I completely missed the black friday deal that DSG arms had with their $400 uppers. The price has increased to $500. Are these still worth the extra $100 tacked on? They look good. I've found some other uppers that are less than the current price from DSG but don't look as good. Still nice though.
