I think the lever-action rifle is my favorite and I I'm getting the Henry bug! The more I read out these rifles and watch videos, the more I like them. I am REALLY liking the 45-70 and will probably put it on my list for 2016 for black bear and deer season. When I first looked at them, I didn't particularly like having to load in the tube. However, I now know that a round can easily be loaded into the receiver for a quick follow-up shot. It's just a beautiful rifle and I've not seen many out there, except for the .22 option.

lever guns do grow on you...I bought this Marlin 1881 made in 1888 from a fellow forum member. It is in 45/70 and shoots fantastic!

Made in Wisconsin too. That is the gun I plan to get. The 45/70 seems to be the basis for creating some great stories, at least in my family.

To this day I would love to find an old western movie from the 40's or 50's, black and white, that I saw in the early 80's. After one of the shoot outs in the typical rock ridges and boulders, good guy picks off a guy. They go to inspect the kill and the ratty hat wearing, teeth missing, old timer sidekick looks at the body and says "45/70 makes a big hole in a man" and laughs.

Henry has stepped it up lately. I like the new small game rifle in .22 WMR with the shorter barrel and Skinner peep sight.

I have to admit the idea of a thumpin' .45-70 has been noodling around my mind but I want to hold out for a decent priced older Marlin. It would necessitate getting at least a single stage press though. Meanwhile I'll make due with my handy .30-30.

I have the Henry 45-70 and the Big Boy 44mag. I have nothing bad to say about them except I didn't like the buckhorn sights on the 44mag. And that was easy to resolve!

The 45-70 is a awesome round. You will love the gun.

My LGS priced the "Golden Boy" at $739, but I'm only finding pics of the Golden Boy in smaller calibers.

The Golden Boys are rim fires. They do make the 45-70 in a brass. It's fairly new. Finding one might take a few ph calls. I will have one when I can find one.

You can usually get the Henry's for $150 off MSRP.

After more research and not finding it, I gave them a call. It is the one you posted and it's $739! It will have to wait until I complete my final 2015 transaction, though. I may check and see if they have layaway.

I have the Henry Big Boy (brass receiver) in .45 Colt. They are great rifles and loads of fun to shoot. I would have probably gotten a 45-70 but for the hunting in IN thing.

Awesome. I can't help but think how sexy that brass 45-70 would look next to my 44mag!!

I hope you get one soon Que.

Those aren't cartridges, they are torpedoes! Had a friend about 1995 that had a TC contender pistol in 45/70 for deer. It was a handful, still have the empty brass as a reminder.
I too have always had a fondness for lever guns and a pre safety Marlin in 45/70 was on my bucket list, but now I tink its a Henry.
Now all I need is for Henry to do a 1895 Winchester :rockwoot:

45-70 is nothing compared to a 416 Ruger. That round will bend your shoulder. I've got a 50bmg but it has a hell of a muzzle brake so it's not to bad recoil wise. Now the pressure wave that comes off of it is a different story.

Someone say Winchester 1895? Great rifles!

Also have to add a big thumbs up on the Henrys as they are not only great shooters but have the slickest action right out of the box.
