I traded for a old ward western field 30 today with the express purpose of building a trench gun out of it. Thing is the the barrel has been modified and had a heavy barrel sleeve welded to it. Does anyone one know where I can find another barrel preferably a 20 inch to replace this one with? I'll will post pictures here in a couple of minutes to show you this super heavy beast.

I dont know why they did this to this poor gun.
The sleeve measures 33.5 inches and has a permanent choke

The old Wards Westernfield I had was a Mossberg 500.
Pull your barrel and compare it to a Mossberg barrel.
    I'll bet you'll find they're the same.

No, they're downright scary. Undercut like that the barrel's thinner than it started and I'd be surprised if the chamber/bore wasn't affected.
I guarantee the chamber has been affected. There is a "builder" in Lawrence that builds these in his garage. He has been building them for years. He makes them from 32" to 60". He shoots at the same shooting house I do on Sunday mornings and they are talking about going to a hotter shell. I am scared his gun are going to start coming apart. I bet someone paid $400-500 to have that barrel built.

Those old take down Stevens (looks like a 520 or some version of it) proly slammed the shooter pretty well. Adding some weight might have tamed it substantially.
Flinching at a turkey shoot..........means you're only gonna eat whatever you win at the drive through.

I've welded a lot of stuff (no guns though) but I am not a welder by trade either. But looks like it had good penetration, and isn't porous. May have been a bit of a gap between the two pieces of metal so whoever welded it might have stitched it together
