After years of I want an M1A and not doing it I am going to pull the plug and just do it. It looks like larger capacity magazines are available for it does anyone have any experience with the 20 rounders? Also anything else I should look out for? I am leaning towards the basic model with wood stock.

    Thanks

Quality new or milsurp 20 rounders work fine. It's a great rifle and I'm sure you'll love it. I have a NM Springfield and if it were me that's the route I would go. It's glass bedded, better sights and a better trigger from the factory.

I have owned 3 M1A's over a period of 15 years. All of mine were the basic model w/ wood stock. All of mine were also SA with G.I parts which IMHO are the better. With regard to the magazines for them I never tried aftermarket because my friends had and they indicated they just did not work well? I only used G.I surplus 20 round magazines. They generally cost a bit more, but are worth it. Again just my experience. They truly are an awesome rifle.
